WARNING: Before you start troubleshooting remember that you are dealing with electricity that can KILL. http://www.kitchentablecomputers.com/static.php - rules Only work inside the computer case when the power has been switched off and disconnected. Never open the power source. Some of the below steps recommend removing physical parts within the computer. While in the computer it is highly recommend that you be aware of ESD and its potential hazards Remove new hardware If any new HARDWARE has been recently added to the computer, remove that hardware to make sure it is not the cause of your issue. If after removing the new hardware your computer works it's likely the computer is either not compatible with the new hardware or a system setting needs to be changed to work with the new hardware device. Remove any disks or USB devices Remove any disks, CD's, DVD's that are in the computer and if any USB devices (Ipods, drives, phones, etc) are connected disconnect all of them as well. Reboot the computer and see if anything changes. Disconnect external devices. Remove everything from the back of the computer except the power cable. Turn on the computer and see if it beeps normally. If the computer has never beeped keep the monitor or display connected to see if any change occurs. Check all fans Make sure all fans are running in the computer. If a fan has failed (especially the heat sink fan for theCPU) your computer could be overheating or detecting the fan failure causing the computer not to boot. Check all cables Verify that all the cables are properly connected at that there are no loose cables by firmly pressing in each cable. All disk drives should have a data cable and power cable connected to them. Your power supply should have at least one cable going to the motherboard. Many motherboards may also have additional cables connected to them to supply power to the fans. Disconnect all expansion cards If the above recommendations still have not resolved the irregular POST, disconnect the riser board (if applicable) and each of theexpansion cards. If this resolves the issue or allows the computer to POST connect one card at a time until you determine what card is causing the issue. Disconnect all drives If you were unable to determine by the beep code what is failing or do not have a beep code disconnect theIDE, SATA ,SCSI or other data cables from the CD-ROM ,Hard Drive and Floppy Drive from the Motherboard. If this resolves your irregular POST or generates error messages re-connect each device until you determine what device or cable is causing the issue. In some situations it can also be a loose cable connection that causes the issue. Remove the RAM If you continue to to receive the same problem with all the above hardware removed, disconnect the RAM from the Motherboard and turn on the computer. If the computer has a different beep code or if your computer was not beeping and is now beeping turn off your computer and try the below suggestions. Making sure to turn off the computer each time you're adding and removing the memory and then turning the computer back on to see if the suggestion resolves the issue. Re-insert the memory into the same slot. If you have more than one stick of memory remove all but one stick of memory, try rotating through each stick. Try one stick of memory in each slot. If you're able to get the computer to boot with one or more of the sticks of memory it's likely you're dealing with some bad memory. Try to identify what stick of memory is bad and replace it. If you're able to get memory to work in one slot but not another slot. You're motherboard is defective you can either workaround the issue by running the memory in a different slot or replace the motherboard. Power cycle the computer In some situations a computer may have power related issues often caused by either the power supply or the motherboard. To help determine if this is the cause of your issue try turning the computer on, off, and back on as fast as possible, making sure the computer power light goes on and off each time. In some situations you may be able to temporarily get the computer to boot. This should only be used as a temporary workaround if you're able to get this to work. Often this is good for users who may have not done a backup and need to get the computer up one more time to copy files before starting to replace hardware. Disconnect and reconnect the CPU For users who are more comfortable working with the inside of their computer or who have built their computer one last recommendation before assuming hardware is bad is to reseat the CPU by removing it and putting it back into the computer. Bad motherboard, CPU, RAM, or power supply If after doing all of the above recommendations you continue to have the same issue unfortunately it is likely that you have badMotherboard, PSU, CPU, orRAM. The next step would be either to replace these components or have the computer serviced. If you plan on doing the repairs yourself or you are a repair shop it is suggested that you replace the Motherboard first, RAM, CPU, and then power supply in that order or try swappable parts from other computers. Hope this helps.

SOURCE: Dell PC Desktop Optiplex GX260 Doesn't boot

Open up the case and remove any add in cards and memory modules. Try to start up by adding these back one at a time until the unit stops booting normally. The light combination is not one recognised in the user manual so I am guessing you have a non-descript fault with one of your components. Be careful when you open the case as to not disturb the ribbon to the motherboard which controls the power, I have had a very long experience trying to get one of these reconnected!

SOURCE: beeps 2 times & a warbling noise when trying to boot up - unplugging power lead & pressing ON/Off button & reconnecting power lead starts up OK - but it can be OK for several days & then repeats the p

The Cause of Problem:

The Power Buttons electrical circle sometimes just braked it by one of sensors and the result is the 2 beeps and Power Supply is in protected mode error.

The whole computer is turn off but the power button is turn on and this is the nub of the matter. Because if you want turn on the computer you can't because already turn on but just the Power button and you can't do anything.

The solution:
You need just change the Power Supply and don't do anything just the power cable put into the Power Supply after turn off computer.
Finaly change back the Power Supply.

Medion pc mt 7 8 beeps

Bad Ram or bad seating of ram, Open your case and remove the ram and replace back into carriage until it clicks do the same for all ram chips secondly while you are there make sure all cables are connected properly by pushing down on them with a small amount of force if they do not move they are solid, If they move or you hear a click they had moved due to expansion and contraction of your systems components from heating up and cooling down.
Please Note : components are very easily damaged from static, so earth yourself on the chassis before you touch anything or if you have an anti-static strap connect to the pc then your wrist and then you can handle you internal components otherwise touching and holding on to the chassis will do the exact same thing just that you can not let the chassis go if you are holding a component.. If after all this and you still have the issue contact your computers manufacturer for further technical assistance. I hope this helps.

My medion desktop model pc mt 14 wont switch on from the mains

Whenyou plug in the power cord is there any lights whatsoever on the laptop, wherethe plug goes in or on the AC Adapter of the power cord?

When you press the power button do you hear fans running, hard drive spinning, lights on the computer, hear any beeps or lights constantly blinking, hear theDvD/CD drive click and the light on the drawer of the DvD/CD turn on for asecond or two? If so the laptop is trying to boot or may have booted, butthe screen is not showing for some reason.

Beep tones and blinking lights tells the technicians what is going on with thelaptop and why it is not booting. Most times it's a motherboard issuewhen you hear beeps or blinking lights continuous. Most times the problemis with the memory or Video Card. Count the Blinking Lights or Beeps and takenote of their pattern (1 Long or 1 Long followed by 2 Short).

Maybe your power cord is bad if you don't get anything to happen whatsoeverwhen you press the power button.

Maybe you have a Static Charge Buildup. Remove the Power Cord, then Pressand Hold the power button for 30 seconds. After 30 seconds plug the powercord back in and hit the power button to see if it boots.

Maybeyour memory is bad or the memory slot is bad.Removethe Power Cord, Open the Case and remove one of the memory chips. Set thechip aside then try rebooting the computer. If it boots, then you knowthe memory chip you set aside is bad so mark an x on it with an ink pen. If it fails to boot then move the chip to the next memory slot and tryrebooting. If it fails take the chip out and set it aside, then put theother chip in and try booting it in both slots. If it boots, just toverify that the chip set aside is bad, mark an x on it and put it into the openmemory chip slot and try booting.
Maybeyour power supply is bad. Sometimes there is enough power to make thepower light come on but not enough power to make the fan turn on or harddrive spin.

What might be the cause of hp pavillion dv2000 not displaying on the screen at start up and giving 3 beeps, 1 long and 2 short, sometimes it boot but doesn't get to the desktop area?

1 long beep followed by two short beeps is usually indicative of a failed/failing display adapter. On something as.... rustic as your dv2000 it can be fixed.... but probably would see better value from just replacing the unit.

After starting my PC I only hear a peep

If you are getting long and short beeps it is possible that the graphic card on your system is not proper.

Either the graphic card is gone bad or it is not seated properly

Try to open the computer tower, disconnect the Graphic card and then see if it still beeps. If it does not beep after removing the graphic card try to reinstall the card and see if it is beeping. If the computer beeps even after reseating the graphic card then you will have to replace the graphic card.

Cannot boot up. 8 beep sound when switch on.

8 beeps typically indicates a problem with video ram. It could be video drivers that were loaded that are conflicting, or the video card itself is failing. If you are not comfortable removing the video card from the motherboard, you will need to take the PC to a professional technician.

Pc will not boot up

Could very well be the power supply. The +12V rail may still be live (hence the fans running), but the others may be down (meaning you won't get a beep signal if the memory modules are removed and the computer restarted).

I am trying to fix a power problem on a medion laptop. When you press the power button, the power led lights up but nothing else happen. The laptop does not start. Any help.

Hi,

When you turn on the system and NO BEEP sound it could be a problem with the system board that fails initialize and boot your system to the operating system. If you hear a beeping sound, you may need to reseat the memory card of your system.

Keep me posted.

Thanks.
