Question about GE RCA 4-Line Speakerphone

Can't turn off the blinking message waiting light

This is an RCA 4 line speakerphone.  I recently changed service providers and I can't get the blinking message waiting light to turn off.  I cannot access the old voicemail to clear it.
I would even reset the entire phone to factory specs if that will clear the light.  Any help?
Thank you!

I removed all power for 15 minutes and it is still blinking. UGH! LOL

    Any other thoughts?

    Thanks

Robert, I did not mean to offend you in any way.  I am truly sorry and realize that you are just trying to help me that is why I said thanks for trying.

I have the manual in PDF format and have looked all through it and can't find anything to clear the light. There is a reference to resetting the phone to factory default.  But I was not sure that would fix the issue.

It is an RCA 4-Line System Phone   Model # 25414RE3

Any help is greatly appreciated and I will not rate this again until we finish ok?  :)

yes, that is the issue.  The other line is disconnected and was VOIP. It nor the router are still connected to the phone.  So, it has to be something internal on the unit.

I will reset to factory specs now and see if that does the trick.

    Again thanks for helping.

  • notescope Jan 26, 2009

Well, that didn't work.  It didn't even erase the stored speed dial numbers which is weird.  I don't have a clue at this point.  Here is what I did per the manual.  3 TImes.

    Restoring the Default Settings

This feature allows you to reset the menu to the original factory default settings.

    1. Press the MENU button while in standby mode.

    2. Use the < REVIEW > button to scroll to RESTORE TO DEFAULTS.

    3. Press the SELECT/SAVE button.

    4. Use the < REVIEW > button to scroll to YES or NO.

    5. Press the SELECT/SAVE button to save.

I reset the phone to org specs and wiped all memory, which didn't get rid of the light but erased all my speed dial numbers.

Is the phone receiving power internally even though it is unplugged?  i.e., is there a small nicad battery powering it's memory like in a computer?  Can't that be removed to reset the whole phone?

    Thoughts?

  • notescope Jan 26, 2009

the battery has been removed and the phone line.  still no dice.

  • notescope Jan 26, 2009

I did that and it was a no go.  How could the phone still be receiving a VOIP signal for msg's waiting when I have disconnected their modem and installed a magicjack?  It doesn't make any sense to me...

  • notescope Jan 26, 2009

Robert, I don't either frankly.  But you have been so nice to try to fix this for free that I will give you the highest rating so you get the warm and fuzzies.  LOL

Tried all these and more, RCA said to just buy a new phone.

    Unbelievable.

The message indicator is controlled by a signal from the service provider; whether that be The Phone Company, a VOIP setup or your internal PBX. Try powering off the phone, disconnecting the phone lines and powering it on. At this point the light should be cleared. If that works, plug in phone lines one by one, waiting a while in-between, to see what line is causing the indicator to light. Another (inelegant) solution is a small piece of black electrical tape.

I believe the answer is..... HOLD DOWN THE DND/DELETE botton for more than 2 seconds or so....This should remove the blinking light assuming you have already checked all your voice messages and it has not gone away on its own..... Hope this helped

Unplug the phone from power for about ten minutes and see if that resets it..i'm not sure if that uses and adaptor for power... but be aware it also gets power from the phone line as well... so unplug that too.

Robert

Please take a moment to rate this solution.. thanks

Resetting it to factory default shouldn't hurt anything tho you will lose any stored phone numbers. it sounds to me like you are still getting the message waiting signal from the phone provider you had... has the switch been made yet ...?

if that works and i suggest it will .... please upgrade this rating to perhaps a fixya.... we are all basically volunteers... we get the warm fuzzy feeling from the ratings....

are you removing the phone line when you reset it... the phone line has power (12 volts i think it is). also flip the phone over and see if there is a cover for a back up battery... there may very well be one to keep your numbers in case of a power failure.

my thinking is that the message waiting is turned on by a signal from the phone company when you have messages waiting... contact them and very forcefully ask them to clear those messages and close the mailbox.

Nor to me either... really dumb question but i have to ask... you have checked your current provider to see if you have messages... if you don't have a mailbox explain to them what is happening and see if it's an issue with them.

Other then removing the phone line... adaptor and backup batter for about 15 minutes i know of no other way to reset the phone.

Our phone says that we have a "message waiting" but we cannot access it. It says in our directions that we would have needed to set up a message system with another company which is something...

Your phone service provider is sending a signal on your phone line that is activating the message waiting on your phone. Likewise the beep-beep-beep you hear is called stutter dail tone which is sent by your phone service provider to indicate that you have a message in voicemail for phones that do not have message waiting or message waiting light ability. To cancel the message indicators, you'll need to call your phone service provider customer support and have them disable voicemail. Nowadays, voicemail service is often automatically added by service providers, especailly if you have recently changed service providers or your service provider has upgraded their switch equipment.

RCA 25414 message light... doesn't

I have 6 of these phones. No problem for a year or so, then one phone got the message light stuck on. Tried some online suggestions without success. Powering down etc. failed to fix it so I stuck a piece of tape over the led.

A couple of weeks ago line 2 failed (externally) and ATT sent a tech out who repaired it and also cleaned up the line. When the line came back, all 6 phones had the message light stuck on!

Talked with the tech here and with the ATT support and nothing worked. Eventually the tech here left as it was not a line fault - but he said he would leave the problem open.

That evening a young ATT guy called. He tried a number of different settings and changes - he was really determined! He called Kentucky and Minnesota and part of the advice was "give up and don't call the customer back"!

Finally he found a configuration option in the central office switch (exchange) for the line called CWMI (Call Waiting Message Indicator). Apparently this option was originally active but was changed when the local trunk was upgraded to fibre over the last year or so.

Once he enabled this option (we have call waiting and caller ID on call waiting on this line), the message lights on all the phones turned off and have worked normally since (10 days), including the one that was "broken" for over a year!

I really credit the tech with persistance on the issue.

Hope this helps someone else out there.

Regards, Hugh

Voice mail indicator light is always on

I recently changed my number and when I did, I received the same problem. It appears that AT&T didn't add the Message Indicator Light service to my new number. Once they did, the message light works!

Try calling your phone service provider and asking if they have a Message Indicator Light function.
