Http://www.dewaltservicenet.com/servicenet_home.aspx?AspxAutoDetectCookieSupport=1 Go to this site type in the model info and you should be able to view a parts diagram. The clutch is not in the front of the drill by the clutch adjuster. It is behind the transmission, in front of the motor and is actuated by a rod from the clutch adjusting ring to the clutch assembly. You should be able to remove the four screws holding the "nose" on, remove all the parts in their respective sub assemblies without much issues.

Works but when a load is put to it the chuck just stops, motor in still running, is the the clutch or the trans

Could be the clutch but before replacing try this first. Make sure the gear/switch selector is fully engaged, try shifting a couple times. Try rotating the clutch collar to increase the torque demand on it and if both these don't work you will probably need to see about replacing it. Let me know if you need more assistance.

I HAVE A DEWALT 991 3/8 DRILL DRIVER. THE MOTOR TURNS AND SOUNDS FINE--THE CHUCK CAN BE HELD WITH LITTLE PRESSURE AND A CLICKING SOUNDS COMES FROM IT. DO YOU THINK IT COULD BE THE CLUTCH ASSEMBLY? JIM

Ensure the clutch collar is turned to where the little drill bit Icon is top dead center of the drill. If this is so, and your gear selector switch is not between gears, you will need a clutch. If this is a 991 Type 1, you may be able to get away with just an output gear, which rides against the ball bearings of the clutch.
392755-00 Output Gear part #. Generally when it is that bad, you will have to remove the clutch from the transmission without taking off the chuck, because the needed resistance for that operation is simply not available.

My Hilti Te 52 hammers hard for a minute and then stops. The motor keeps turning, if you lift slightly on the bit it'll start hammering again. After another 20 seconds it'll stop again. You can drill a...

It does sound like the clutch is worn out. You would have to completely disassemble the whole tool just to get to the clutch. Then there are no parts available.
While the 52 was a very good drill the clutch had a tendency to wear out. I know it is hard to give up on a tool that is still working halfway, but the tools made today are much faster than the 52.

PS if you look to purchase a new one from Hilti they always offer a trade on your old one.

Slipping clutch on low switch with Milwaukee 2601-20 drill/driver. Can't separate clutch housing assy from drill. Is it pressed on? Same for chuck. I've removed the screw in chuck, still won't separate.

this tool has a 5 year limited warranty so I would try and have repaired under warranty. I looked at a breakdown and it doesn't specify how the chuck is on but I would to think it is threaded. the clutch is an assembly and there are no replacements parts other than the assembly available. Let me know if you need more assistance.

My Makita handrill is not working. It's just like loose, and the drill is not rotating anymore.

Your bearings in the Clutch have fallen out of place.
Basically the tension screws pulling the clutch against the body.
Have became loose. If you Tighten them most likely wont fix it.
You should contact Makita. If you do open the drill. The Clutch assembly will be a task to reassemble. And the warranty might be voided.

if your in hurry & away from the service center all you need to do is just loosen the 4 screw that holds the clutch housing & set it # 1 & back to drill mode couple of times. do not remove clutch if your not sure co'z its got tiny needle bearing on front of the transmission.this is just a temporary fix . it may happened again.
