Question about Garmin 60 GPS Receiver

1 Answer

Plotting Waypoints When out at sea and without my laptop how do I put a waypoint into The GPS for a place that I want to go to. I know the coordinates that I am reading off a chart but have not yet figured a way to put a waypoint into the GPS using the coordinates rather than scrolling using the map page and using the mark button.

Re: Plotting Waypoints

Here's the link to the user manual if you need it; Garmin says; To manually enter in the coordinates for a waypoint on the 60 or 76 -series units, use the following steps: Press and hold the 'Mark' button. Use the up arrow to scroll up to the "Location" field and press 'Enter'. A new box pops up to enter in the new coordinates. Go to "OK" and press 'Enter'. Select "OK" at the bottom right corner to save all changes. Hope this helps :)

Consistent error entering garmin etrex coordinate in google earth

Consistent errors are usually projection or datum related. If you are taking coordinates collected in one projection and displaying them in your GPS in another, you the points will offset. I'm not talking about the decimal degrees 00.000n 000.0000w vs 00 00 00N 00 00 00W. I'm talking about the geographic model to represent the surface of the earth. Google Earth generally uses a geographic projection with WGS 1984 or WGS84 Datum. Make sure you are using the same settings on your GPS.

How do you set waypoints on the Magellan Meridian gold. To and from a location?

Press and hold the GOTO button for 2 seconds. A "Mark" screen will appear. If you are saving your current location, highlight the "Save" at bottom of screen and press enter. This will save you current location. You can edit the name of the waypoint at this screen also. You can do this before you save the waypoint or you can go to Menu/Database/User/Waypoint (the one you want to edit)/Enter. At this screen you can edit the name by pressing the arrow up or down to get to the name field and press "enter" to get to the alphabet screen. If you are entering a waypoint using coordinates, do the above but edit the coordinates to the ones you want to use and then save.

Upload waypoints via laptop

Quite honestly, this is not worth the trouble. It easier to re-enter the waypoints manually. If you want to try it, you need to get some GPS connection software from someone like: You cannot do it with your PC and cable alone. Good luck.

SD Card slot Garmin nuvii 260

I have found that waypoints, routes and directions work only when I load it on the unit itself as opposed to the SD card. The SD card works more like an expansion slot for pictures or maps.

When you open up Mapsource you'll see the map on the right and the pane on the left, above the pane there are 4 tabs (Maps, Waypoints, Routes and Tracks). As you select a map or create a waypoint, route or track. It will put a number in parenthesis which will increase in numbers as you add an item corresponding to each category, for example if you create a waypoint. So once you have done that, click on the TRANSFER tab in the Menu selection bar and choose SEND TO DEVICE. A window will pop up that will say...Device: with a drop down menu if your Garmin unit has an SD card in it, if not it will just show the Garmin unit. Then right below that there will be a section that says WHAT TO SEND with 4 check boxes that will say Maps, Waypoints, Routes and Tracks. Make sure that you have selected the Garmin unit, not the SD, and the waypoints, routes or tracks you want to send. I hope this solves your problem or at least points you in the right direction...

ETrex Legend, GPS Coordinates from Google Earth Don't Match Basemap

Are you sure you're using the exact same format on GoogleEarth and your GPS?

GoogleEarth: save the waypoints in a KML file (NOT KMZ) to your computer, naming it appropriately.
Go to and convert the KML file to a GPX file, using their converter. They will present you with a file to download. Download it and send those waypoints to your unit and you'll be set to go.

How do get coordinates?

I have the same problem. I need to navigate to broadcast towers on a regular basis. I think we should email everyone we can find in Garmin until they release a firmware upgrade.
