Question about Intel SYNTAX S651M SIS651 mATX (SYNTAX S651M SIS651) Motherboard

Still got driver problems ...i guess

I couldn't get a solution the first time so I'm asking again... I recently formatted my pc, a syntax S651M motherboard. I can't install my monitor's driver (for Samsung SyncMaster 753s). At "(Default Monitor) and Properties", which I reached by clicking Advanced at the Settings tab at display properties, there's no information at the Adapter tab. Clicking properties opens a new Dialogue box called VgaSave Properties this does show some information, but Manufacturer and Location are both unknown. When trying to install the monitor's driver from the CD, a dialogue box comes up, at the top it says "Pick the display adapter on which you want to install the monitor". I'm supposed to choose from a drop-down list, but it's blank. Any way, I select my monitor model in the box under that and click ok. I then get an error message that says: "Error occur, while installing monitor adaptor. (ErrorCode 259)". Using XP. Original monitor driver CD, but i'm convinced the problem's with not with the cd, i even downloaded the driver from the samsung website and had the same result. I just did a google search for "vgasafe" and got this http://www.subwolf.org/v2/articles.php?article=1 but i couldn't get the driver from the link supplied there. not even sure if it's for my hardware. maybe you could see what's there and explain it to me. Thanks for your time.

Thanks for the effort. you said, "After you locate the file, go to control panel, then display. Click on the settings tab, then advanced.
    Now click the monitor tab.
In the default monitor box click properties, then the driver tab" I the default monitor box, properties is grey and unclickable. I believe I located the .inf file anyways.

there is no monitor at device manager. under other devices (question mark icon), there's "VGA controller (VGA compatible)" (question mark icon with an exclamation superimposed). clicking properties leads to a box with a reinstall button. but the wizard can't locate the driver on the cd.

i think i tried that before and my screen went blank. i tried booting in safe mode (even though i'm not sure what it does) but the pc wouldn't start up, it would be loading files after i choose safe mode then freeze. i had to format again. that was after i didn't get a result for the first time i posted the problem.

First browse the driver CD and look for a file with the extension .inf. You should find it in a sub directory probably "winxp" or similar. Make sure you find the one for winXP, not win2000 or winnt. After you locate the file, go to control panel, then display. Click on the settings tab, then advanced. Now click the monitor tab. In the default monitor box click properties, then the driver tab. Now click update driver,(the second button down) and you will get a wizard that will take you through the install process. Pay attention here, print these instruction if you need to. First window will want to go online, choose third choice, "no, not at this time" and click next. Next window, choose "install from a list or specific location" and click next. Now click "Search for a driver in these locations" check "include this location in the search". At the end of the text box, click browse and go to the location where you found INF file. Click next and the driver will install. You may have to restart your computer.

In control panel again, this time double click system, then hardware, then device manager.
Look down the list and click the + on monitor.
Now RIGHT Click default monitor, then update driver. You'll get the driver wizard there as well.

That question mark is your monitor but windows can't install it because it can't find the drivers. Right click the question mark and uninstall. You will have to restart windows.
When windows restarts, it will find new hardware and the wizard will come up automatically. Then go through the steps again and make YOU tell windows where the driver is. That INF file is the driver for your monitor. Windows will not find it on the CD by itself, thats why you need to find it and show windows where it is. Have patience, we'll get it installed.

That motherboard has onboard video. You need to either download new drivers, or look for the disk that came with the motherboard to install all the system drivers for that motherboard, including the ones for the video controller. Once you have installed those drivers, then worry about the monitor drivers. Chances are, after you've installed the AGP drivers for that board, the monitor will take care of itself. WinXP should already have the drivers for that monitor.
