The only other possibility I can think of is that the HDD has a bad sector which is causing a problem with the install

Have you checked the system requirements for windows 8?
Are you leaving it long enough to complete the install process?

SOURCE: windows 8 pro sound problems

You can sometimes you can use Win 7 drivers for the audio, found on the HP website: ,for your onexant High-Definition SmartAudio 221 . That said, you may have to change the compatibility of the driver to WINdows 8, you did not say 32 or 64, and install it to your audio device. Have you notices other devices in Device Manager that are not working properly? I had a similar situation, Audio, Modem, Card Reader, when I upgraded an old (2005) Gateway MX6421 to Win 7 pro N 64 I had to locate the drivers, (from a HP site), change a few lines of code in the drivers and change compatibility to Win 7.

How do i get drivers and more free memory on my notebook, Thats what it keeps flashing up and im getting stressed ive just got windows xp pro installed after weeks of problems.?

Martin, this laptop is so old and has so little memory, it'll be difficult to get much to run on it. The fact that support for WinXP is over leaves you with little to do with it. Donate it and get the tax write off. Keep the external extras you bought - you may be able to use them. Have a look at eBay or Craigslist in your area for a used PC - desktop or laptop. You'll probably be surprised to see what you can get for short money on a machine that can run modern apps. Look for a a machine that has a processor with at least 2 cores (more is better), 4GB RAM and 100GB or more HDD space. Look for Windows 7 - a 64 bit ("x64") version is better than a 32 bit ("x86") version. Most laptops will have built in WiFi and desktops will have a network connection. You can buy a desktop like this for about $60. I know, because I did this summer. HP, Core2Duo, 4GB, 150GB, Windows 7 x64. You'll be eligible for a *free* Windows 10 upgrade IF you have Windows 7 or later installed.

Legends of darkness

I have checked this online for you and the result is All games released after September 14, 2012 are compatible with Windows 8 and Windows 8 Pro, i am assuming that windows 8 is installed, there is another way to start the disk by navigating your way to Computer and double clicking the DVD drive icon which should then ask what you want to do (run setup.exe) i hope this is of some use.

How do i uninstall windows 8 pro from my latop so that i can use my wondows 7 again?

If you installed on the primary drive, not a dual-boot to a separate partition, or booted from a Virtual Box software, you will need a Windows 7 installation DVD/Disk and do a re-install of Windows 7 . Select the primary Drive/partition ,Format HDD, follow on-screen instructions.

NEC laptop will not boot from disk or USB

just make sure ISO files or DVD you are using to boot with are actually bootable disc for OS ,as for USB booting ,you will need to turn on usb boot on the bios and software needs to be USB software.
and I am not talking about boot order that you have already selected.
check windows 8 software on anther machine and see if you can boot with it

No driver disc

Here is a link to the factory site with the MFR's driver on it. If I have not selected the correct OS you may need to change it, but this is exactly what you need.

If this does not work or you require further help feel free to contact me, I CAN solve this problem.

The problem is the driver for the sata hard drive. You would need to get that from the dell site and put it on a floppy disk, then at the start of the windows install select to install that driver. I ended up just installing the rc version of windows 7 and it worked out fine.

My computer wont let me watch movies now. it keeps saying something about my dvd decoder wasnt installed.

if you bought the computer new or the DVD drive new , you whould have got a CD with it , most probably with something like WinDVD or something , if you have the specific CD with DVD software on it install it , as it will enable you to watch DVD's using Windows media player etc..

if you bought the computer second hand etc.. and or cant find the cd's a free solution is to download VLC media player (Download here) the only disadvantage about using this free solution is that you will have to play the DVD's through VLC you wont be able to use windows media player etc. to play DVD's as VLC does not require decoder software to play DVD's

otherwise you can purchase software such as WinDVD and this will enable you to play using your media player of choice.
