Screen is blank unless a flashlight is shown on the screen. Prior to this happening laptop was dropped and the left hinge broke off. Could something else have broken off?

sounds like the backlight system of your screen is broken. You may have to take it to a laptop repair shop, preferably an authorized service center to have it fixed

Samsung t809 blank screen

If the screen doesnt look cracked but you did fall on it. most likely it damaged one of the connectors and it's just not getting power. If it was cracked, it would still turn on you would be able to see the broken line.
