Generally speaking, yes. over 4 tons of waste are generated during the christmas period of just wrapping paper and shopping bags. you can help to avoid this by using newspaper, or even just opening gifts carefully and reusing the paper.

What can I use to wrap gifts other than gift wrap? I am on such a tight budget and am sure that we have stuff round the house that I could use instead of buying new.

How about using old maps! It sounds bit off beat but people usually have old maps that are out of date or just not needed any more around the house. They make very funky wrapping paper and add to the adventure of unwrapping the gift.

I really hate waste to the environment but still want to wrap gifts for my family. Any ideas for alternatives?

Here are some ideas that will save the environment as well as some money:

- Reuse gift bags from previous gifts

- Use grocery bags that are plain and unused and decorate them with ribbons, colors etc

- If you have any plants pots or boxes around the house that you don't need, you can put gifts in there and use tissue paper to pad it out.

If I want to gift wrap presents in a very colorful way, do I need to buy a lot of different rolls of gift wrap?

Actually you don't have to buy a crazy amount of gift wrap colors. You can stick to two solid colors and then just use ribbons and bows to create a really colorful decorative look.

Where can I buy a gift wrap organizer? I want a hanging one.

I got my hanging gift wrap organizer from amazon.

It has lots of small pockets for glue, scissors etc and some bigger pockets for the actual gift wrap, although if you buy more than a couple of rolls of gift wrap, it's best to find a separate place to store it.

Can you use more than one pattern of gift wrap to wrap a present? I want to create a funky look for my friends present.

Sure. One idea is to wrap a present with a piece of gift wrap and then using a completely different design, you can cut wide strips and use double sided sticky tape to wrap it across the middle and down the sides.

Make sure you choose papers that complement each other.

I have been put in charge of wrapping all the family xmas gifts. Any idea how I can learn to do it well?

Oprah has a good step by step guide on her site to gift wrapping. It's really not that complicated, you just have to keep it simple and make sure that you start off with enough paper.
