John:

The puffs of smoke when you put the machine under a load make me think that your carburetor is loading up and needs to be adjusted. Adjust the fuel/air adjustment screws on the carb until it runs properly.

SOURCE: john deere stx 46 wont move just howls

Stx46 Kohler engine. Remove float bowl, check float operation. These floats are plastic, preset to obtain proper float level from the factory. The needle should move freely up and down in its seat. Overtightening the bolt that holds the float bowl on indents the bottom and thereby changes the fuel volume. Straighten the float bowl or buy a new one. This should help. Very frustrating; right.

SOURCE: My John Deere 345 dies for no apparent reason

You have dirt in the fuel tank and it sucks the dirt up on the filter that is attached to the pump. After the machine stalls, the dirt falls off and it will restart and run for a few min.

SOURCE: need instructions for changing a drive belt on a John Deere LT155

I have googled LT155 and came upon john deere LT155 lawn tractor(noncurrent). It took me to John Deere's site. I put in your model number and it had several catagories. I would try the alphabetical list, go to B and look for traction belt.
Good day.

Still having issues with mower. Took it to John Deere and it ran like a champ. Took it home to mow and it stops after 2 min. I am baffled. I have replaced the spark plug and Coil

You need two things to run a gas engine. Spark and gas. If you had a spark problem, it wouldn't likely die after 2 minutes, so probably gas. Either the carb float is set wrong, or (very possibly) the fuel filter is clogged. (Or something really simply like a crimped gas line). Ps... If it uses an inline gas filter and it's made of plastic, and it's too close to the exhaust, it could melt closed.

Why is my John Deere LA 150 not pulling hills after 40 minutes of mowing

I have an LA145. I do a bit of commercial mowing with this mower. Sounds like tranny problems developing, if the growling noise is coming from the back under your seat. Tranny problems need immediate attention if you want to save the tranny.

Hydrostatic Transmission Fluid is actually 10W-50 synthetic motor oil (like mobil). Do not use hydraulic fluid or transmission fluid.

Hydro static transmissions on most lawn tractors are very similar. Most of them are made by one or two manufacturers. Tuff Torq makes a lot of them. They definitely make all the John Deere lawn tractor hydro drives. The lawn tractor manufacturers (like JD) often say they are sealed and not serviceable. That is flat out, a lie. All of the JD hydros, and most all others, are serviceable. A complete line of rebuild/replacement parts can be found at Tuff Torq. Info and instructions can be found there.

Additionally, I have found that the mower manufacturers fill them (or spec them) with motor oil, 10W-30W. In the service manual, and at the hydro manufacturer, you are told if your tractor is used in extreme or heavy duty situations it's best to drain the oil and replace it with 10W-50 synthetic motor oil (like mobil). Truth is the tranny should have this oil from the get go. It will give you more power and extend the life of the tranny. The mower manufacturers are all just being cheap. John Deere fills them with 10W-30. They figure why not, you're the one who has to pay for the early failure. Oh yeah, one other minor detail, the tranny manufacturer also recommends regular oil changes, like every 100 hours.

Virtually all of these trannys have a black plug on the top. You have to remove the tranny from the mower (not a difficult things to do, takes about 30 min). Pull that black plug (I use a flat blade screw driver to pry them up) and turn the tranny upside down for about 30 min to completely drain. Most hold about 2 quarts. Flip it back, right side up, and refill. Install plug and reinstall tranny. Note: under the plug there is often a magnet which collects metal shavings. Lift this magnet out while you have the plug out, clean it and replace it. It may fall out while the tranny is upside down. When you refill the fluid just keep filling till it comes up within a quarter inch of the plug. You may have to go through a bleed process after reinstalling the tranny. The tuff torq site explains the bleed process.

The Huskvarna YTH150 uses Hydrogear transmission 319-0650, drive model 150071. One place to find parts and diagrams is here:http://www.m-and-d.com/Hydro-Gear_parts....

My john deere push mower starts fine mows for 10 min quits wont start so I took the the gas cap off looked at it put it back on push the prime bulb 1 time it started ran for 10 min quit did the gas cap...

I'm not sure of the model number of your mower or engine to know the fuel and carburetor set up. I do have one easy thing to try though as it sounds as if a vacume is building up in the tank. Try putting a half of tank of gas in it, leave the gas cap off, and see if it continues as it was or if it runs ok. If this stops the issue your cap vent is pluged up. I hope this helps
