you need a firewire cable (ieee1394).
you also need a firewire port on your pc. if you don't have one then you can buy a firewire pci card.
they are not expensive.
you need an iLink cable. Also known as a mini-i400 or Firewire Mini. If you have standard 6-pin Firewire (IEEE1394) on your PC, you can get a converter cable which is i400 one end, 1394 the other.
You are mentioning that you are trying to transfer video though USB port, that is not possible, you have to connect the to the pc through the DV port from the camera to the Firewire port of
the PC, if your PC doesnt have a Fire wire port, install a IEEE1394
firewire card in one of your PCI slots.
First check whether you have a DV port in your desktop, in case you dont have it, buy a IEEE1394 firewire card and install it on your mother board in one of the PCI slots. As soon as you restart your system the system will recognize your new firewire card, then connect the camera and pc through a fire wire card. As soon as you put the power button of camera ON the system will recognize your camera. Then using any video editing software you can download.
It shouldn't need one. Usually it auto loads. Do you have a program you are currently using to capture video to your computer?
