Sony Vaio VGN-TXN Replacement screen does not work...

HELP! I had a cracked screen on my Vaio VGN-TXN laptop, but it STILL worked... The crack got annoying, so I ordered a NEW screen which should have been a simple fix.

I put the new screen in, and its backlight does not work, and you can see the screen working fine. So, I put the new one back in the box, and put the OLD screen back on. Now, the OLD screen (which did work before, just cracked!) is not working--the backlight does not light up.

I'm HOPING its not the motherboard ($425), but I do NOT see any kind of switch/sensor for the lid on this model!

Does anyone know where the switch/sensor is for these models? Or has anyone else had a similar problem?

Update: LCD Retailer informed me that the LCD Harness cable is most likely the problem now. I'm not sure how, but he said something about the voltage/current in the inverter.

So, for $47, I'm waiting for an "LCD Harness" directly from Sony.

I have tried to replace the screen on my Sony VGN-SZ430N two times now. When I install it, it is just a white screen. It boots up and goes through the sequence just fine, but nothing on the screen but...

The new display is either an incompatible replacement or defective. Visible image material on the old display afterward proves that it is not a problem with the video cable, software or other hardware in your computer.

Can you post a photo of the cracked screen? It would be helpful, if not then you should give more details about how, and where it is cracked.

Hi my sony vio vgn txn 15p video is faint

If when you say faint you mean you can barely make out an image then the problem is most likely the backlight inverter in the screen assembly has gone bad. If what you mean is that the brightness got turned all the way down then it's just a matter of adjusting the brightness of the screen by holding down the function key (Fn) and pressing the LCD screen brightness adjustment keys noted usually by a picture of a sun or something similar accompanied by an up or down arrow.

there will be two random black spots on the side of your laptop if you pull them off you will find two screws that will be the same on the other side undo all of the screws and pull the plastic of the front of your laptop and the screen will just slide out then follow the wires and you will find a little bit ware you can unplug the wires then do the opisit to putt the screen back in .

Sony Vaio VGN-NR120E cracked lcd screen.

You won't be able to see video if your LCD screen is cracked.

Connect a monitor to the VGA port , the hold the Fn key and hit F7.

If I could be of further assistance, let me know. If this helps or solves the issue, please rate it.

Cracked laptop screen

Not necessary, even though if it is the same size.
The video connector and the inverter connection differ between various laptop brands and even between model within the same brand.
You can get exact replacement LCDs even 2nd hand ones, do a Google search.
You can get compatable types from some suppliers but you need to specify the exact make and model to them.
