I had that problem and just got off the phone with the GE help line. I had a LOT of ice building up and did not realize that eventually it hit the bottom of the bottom basket, thus preventing it from sliding back all the way. This eventually prevented the freezer door from closing tightly, so the problem quickly escalated. The man on the phone told me to melt the ice on the bottom with a hair dryer until I could get it all out, then be sure that the DRAIN LINE is also opened up. He said to shoot in a solution of 2 cups hot water with 1 t baking soda to force the line open so that it does not start building up again. The problem for me is that I cannot find the drain.... hope this helps!

Water dripping inside of freezer, forms ice-cicles, water doesn't dispense and temp. rises on both freezer and refrigerator.

Check rear inside wall of freezer for frost build up, this prob is an indication that you have a defrost problem, like a bad defrost heater or defrost control.

Leaking water and ice build-up in freezer

There's a drain hole in the freezer side behind the bottom drawer in the back wall that must be clogh ; put hot water into it untill melted the ice and keep pouring water to clean the drain (don't worry , the water goes to an evaporative tray) .Keep the drain clean by putting every 3/4 months half a cup of clorox or bleach.

Freezer compartment has frost buildup

This can be caused by the drain hole below freezer coil being blocked by ice. You MUST remove all ice in drain under freezer coil. Use turkey baster to squirt hot water into hole and use hairdryer to defrost. Possible defrost thermostat is defective. Unit never goes into defrost, ice forms on coil and in floor of freezer. After defrosting may work OK for a week or two but gradually gets warmer because ice is blocking ports where cool air gets to refrig. May also have water in refrig box. Can also be caused by defective defrost timer.

Freezer, water problem

you have a frozen defrost drain, first of all defrost all of the ice out of the drain pan behind the grate, once the ice is gone you'll see a drain hole that goes thru the floor of the refrig. you need to flush some hot water thru this drain.

I use a big syringe filled with hot water to do this it will force any sludge build up out of the drain tube into the drain pan.

kind of an easy fix even if you aint 10=)

Fresh Food Compartment not cold enough

check freezer for frost build up and if fan blowing, check condenser make sure clean, and fan blowing, check vents in refrig. make sure no blockage, freezer control should be in the middle setting, you can try turning that to Warmer freezer allowing MORE air to refrigertor side.

Ice forming in bottom of freezer

Rita, your drain hole is frozen over and when your refer goes into defrost the water is running out into the cabinet instead of down the drain hole. Remove the evaporator cover and poor some boiling water in the evaporator drip pan. This should melt the ice and clear the drain hole....Catriver...post back.
