Seagate Momentus 4200.2 80GB hard drive no spin condition

Trying to find a replacement circuit boad for this hard drive. No spin condition appears to be an electronic problem with the circuit board. Board must be an exact match. Any help would be appreciated!

Hi,
If the hard drive has the manufacturer's warranty then it is better to replace with the new one. If don't have warranty then would you tell me how the problem has arised.

Hi,
For same no spin symptom, I found Shorted Zener Diodes in circuit boards of HDD.
If you have Multi-Volt meter, you can check for 2 zener diodes mounted on +5 and +12 volt supply of HDD circuit.
Good luck.

Such a small hard drive, You will need to buy / find the same hard drive with the same board, take the working board out of the new drive and place it on the old drive.

I looking for a pcb boad for hd western digital

That would be on another WD2500JB Caviar harddrive

Either that, or start looking on the internet posting -
WD2500JB PCB Board, and see what search hits come up.

Here,.....let me try.............

http://www.hdd-parts.com/18100096.html

Before you replace it, let me ask........
1) Was it in a Desktop PC?

2) Was it in an external harddrive?

External harddrive?
Then suggest you obtain a 3.5 IDE (PATA) external enclosure,

http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications/SearchTools/item-details.asp?EdpNo=3883498&CatId=2780

In an external harddrive there is a small interface circuit board.

The Harddrive plugs into the small interface circuit board, and the USB cable is attached to the small interface circuit board.

It is this small interface circuit board that usually goes bad.

The external enclosure is just like the case of the external harddrive.
Has a USB cable going to a small interface circuit board, and the harddrive plugs into it.

My hard drive wont read it worked before dont know why

A disk-drive has several major components:
* the electronics circuit-board
* the power/data external connectors
* the motor that spins the disk-drive
* the read/write mechanism that moves above the recording surface
* the recording surfaces

No power means no "spin", and nothing happens.

Dead motor means no "spin", and nothing happens.

Dead electronics on the circuit-board means that nothing happens.

Damaged read/write mechanism.

Damaged recording surfaces.

I have no power to the drive i think the power has burnt out a smell of burning came from the unit how can i change the case

If it is an "external" drive, you can open the casing, remove the disk-drive, and "transplant" the disk-drive into a new, "empty", enclosure (about $30 at any computer-store).

If it is an "internal" drive, you'll have to find an identical disk-drive, split the "electronic" circuit-board from the "spinning" part, on both drives, and then connect the "good" circuit-board to your disk-drive.

Then, you can access your files.

Broke off the USB connection from the board on the bottom of the drive. is there a way to replace this board to get it up and running again

Did you break the connector on the "enclosure" part of an external disk-drive,
or did you break one of the connectors on the "bare" disk-drive (not inside an enclosure) ?

If the former, then you can purchase a new "empty" enclosure, and "transplant" your disk-drive (with your files) from the "old" enclosure to the "new" enclosure.

If the latter, then you need to find an _identical_ disk-drive, disassemble it, to separate the "spinning" part of the disk-drive from the electronic circuit-board (with its connectors), and disassemble your disk-drive, and connect your "spinning" part to the "good" circuit-board.
Or, search online for a professional "file-recovery" service, who will do the same, for a fee.

My WD3200AAJS will not spin up. I think the PC board is fried. where do i get a replacement for it. I need to get the information from the hard drive.

Just a suggestion;
I would buy another Western Digital WD3200AAJS, remove the circuit board, and install it in the one that needs it.

Copy off the needed info, then discard the drive. Install the circuit board back into the one it came out of, and have a good 320GB SATA Harddrive.

My computer wont read my seagate u6 40 GB how to fix it?

Well depending on weather it is the EXTERNAL electronics, or the INTERNAL electronics, you can replace the circuit, board, with a new board from an exactly the same drive may work. But if the fault, is within the HDD's electronics, then the only way to fix that is to send it back to the maker and ask them to recover it, this can be very expensive though.

WD2500 external hd from adaptec

Hi,

first unless you're operating the drive at Sub 0 celcius, it has no need to warm up, in fact they prefer cool temps. If it is power cycling on the way to working either the controller board from adaptec or the one on the HDD is failing. You can try moving the HDD into a different shell(available at most computer stores). If it does the same thing in the new shell the board on the drive is the problem.

Although possible to replace it's generally not cost effective to replace both the shell and circuit board as drives are so cheap these days. Wether you try to replace the shell or not I would recommend backing up anything of value that's on the drive as this type of problem is generally indicative of a serious failure in the near future.

Hard drive not spinning up

Hi you would have to buy a replacement drive that works that is the same as the one you zapped and change over the board to see if you did any other damage to the drive motor or send it to a recovery person which would probably be cheaper in the long run.

It is possible to replace/transplant the circuit board. But I am not sure of the motor and the platters. I would suggest you not to play around with the platters. If you wish to replace the circuit board (I guess it is also called the logic card) get a hdd of the same make and size and replace it with this one.
