Question about Mitsubishi CS-40307 40" TV

1 Answer

Black screen I have a 40" mitsubishi old tube TV, I think of the bigger(and heavier) TV's made... I recently moved it, and it looks good when I set it up, but as soon as any of the displays exit the screen, i.e: volume bar, time, channel, a large black box appears only letting you view about a 3 inch border of the actual picture. I know the entire screen does still work as you can see the picture fine again if you change the volume, but that only lasts 3 seconds. Thanks,

Use your remote then turn off the text messege of your tv.the black screen that you seen is for the messege but since their is no message written in the box ,that's why you see a black box.

1996 mitsubishi 40" tv has a black screen and

no pic at all usiually means the the heater element in the picture tube it self is burned out. Also there could be a problem with the internal power supply that gives electricity to the heater element. These are all thing the cunsumer cant fix. You either need to trust ONLY a certified Mitsubishi TV repair man, or replace the TV.
I know it's not great news, but if this advice helps, please give me a good rating.

I have a sony xbr tv and after moving it, now THE TOP half of the screen is greenish. how can i fix this?

MAKE SURE NO SPEAKERS WITH BIG MAGNETS ARE ABOVE OR NEAR THE TOP OF THE SET--magnets can cause "purity" problems.

The set has a built in coil to correct this every time you turn the set on.

IF THE SET IN THE MOVE FELL FORWARD, IT MAY HAVE DAMAGED THE SHADOW MASK INSIDE THE TUBE.....

TWO REASONS FOR YOUR PROBLEM: COIL IN SET NOT WORKING FOR SOME REASON---ROTATE SET LEFT AND OR RIGHT AND SEE IF PURITY CHANGES OR BECOMES GOOD.

IF SO A MANUAL COIL CAN BE USED (CALLED A DEGAUSSING COIL) TO CORRECT IT--TAKES 5 SECONDS.

SECOND: SHADOW MASK IN TUBE (SCREEN) IS DISLODGED BY MOVE----THESE ARE VERY HEAVY SETS AND THE MASK IS EASY TO DAMAGE.

The mask is inside the tube and perforated with hundreds of tiny openings that line up with the phospher coating (stripes if you look close at set with it on) if mask got dislodged in move--damage is permanent.

If changing north, south, east or west position of front of set corrects it mask is good.

Unlike others who have bid I am answering this for free, if I told you something you did not know rate this free solution as very helpful.

Dont know what the model is but it is a 40 inch picture tube. Their is a big black box that is taking up almost all of the picture. can not watch tv with this there. how do you remove?

Your closed captioning has gotten turned on. You need to go to the menu settings and turn off the closed captioning. This setting is usually located under the "SET UP" or "SPECIAL" menu.

If you still have problems you can look on the back of the TV and there should be a sticker with model number and we can help you out further.

Good Luck...

Oversized picture problem

Several possibilities, if you use a set top box to get your signal like a cable box or satellite receiver they will have settings that effect picture size. It could be a high voltage problem inside the TV causing an effect called blooming, if that is it you can usually change brightness and or contrast and see the picture get smaller and larger. I don't recall that set having any customer settings that could give that symptom.

TV has sound but screen is black.

The most common problem with sets was the high voltage transformer which to my knowlege is no longer available. I had a source for good after market transformers but that has even dried up. Sorry for the bad news.

Black screen and no sound

I realized that there is a 90 day warrantee on parts and a 30 day limited warrantee on labor for the  repairs that were done. As I stated, the original problem was the picture shrinking after a few minutes of the set being on. The repair firm took my control board with them. When they came back to install the repaired control board in my set there was a load spark during the installation, after which I had a black screen and no sound.  The repair firm took my set them and installed a "CAP Kit", a STRM6511, and a "D1881". The set worked perfectly until two days ago.
I called the repair firm an they are coming out this Thursday to check out my TV.   I am hoping the problem is related to the failure of one of the parts installed to fix a similar problem which occurred after the sparking incident.

Mitsubishi CS-40707 Greenish/Yellowish Display

Yeah, I had mine checked for the same thing. The "blue" - There's only three - red yellow blue- portion of your tube died. Not repairable. Last I checked it costs at least $1,000 for a new 40 inch tube. Good luck. Mine went to the garbage dump!

Black screen with green smiley face

If your tv has a picture tube, your problem is in it. If you have only one line now,the vertical circuit is not working. You could have jarred something loose around the picture tube.Maybe a yoke lead ???

Funny half screen problem

Nope, Sorry to tell you, there is most likly a coupling capacitor or the vertical sweep IC itself could be defective. Although if you have had some sort of solid state Printed circuit board training, this should not be to hard to find, with a can of freeze spray. Unfortanatly this set has no user replacable parts inside of it, as everything is soldered into place and there is no easy fix. Although depending on how old the set is, is going, Im sure, to determine if you want to invest any cash into this thing. Without any training it would be a crapshoot Im afraid! So stay safe and seek the assistance of a pro. Good Luck Please do not forget to rate this!
