The overheating can be caused by :-
The fan has stopped working - needs replacing
The vents and or fan is blocked with dust - needs cleaning
When operating the laptop it needs to be placed on a flat surface so the vents on the bottom of the laptop are ubobstructed.

2- Repairing and cleaning Windows registry.
These two tips are found to be very helpful to fix the laptop shutdown problem. Almost all the computer users surf internet which could result in viruses attacking your system. Some of these infections are really pesky and cause the machines to shutdown randomly.
The registry errors, however, are the internal errors and can become a cause of system crashes and freezes. The registry keys shall be in good health to keep a system perfect.

Aspire 5535 heats up and shuts down when a game is initialized. Fans clean and appears functional. Applied fresh thermal glue to heat sinks. Problem persists.

Lenovo Y410 laptop is getting hot and shutdown automatically.

When systems power off suddenly, always suspect - the power first. I would then look at heat and physical connections next as culprits. Memory errors almost always show up as blue screens.
I say try a new power supply and see what it does. Its not a lot of money either way.

Run CPUID Hardware Monitor and watch your temps. You will have to turn logging on or you will lose the data in a crash.
Make sure your CPU heatsink is still connected properly. Things have a way of working loose.

When running video or playing games fan seems to run loud the whole computer shuts off

That means the heat sink processor is clogged and needs to be cleaned. When the computer can't cool down the processor, it detects overheating and shutdowns to protect the processor.

The back of the computer needs to be removed and the heat sink needs to be cleaned. I do not recommend you to do it if you have no previous experience cleaning computers.

Sony vaio system becomes hot and shutdowns

More than likely the fan above the processor is not working. Or the vents are clogged on the computer case due to dust/dirt. Ventilation.Check the fans.

Laptop turning off

Often, if a system turns off every time at roughly the same time, it's a hardware problem. System gets too hot, shuts down, restart it and it'll run again for a while, but not quite as long, and continue like that. Can you feel/hear the fan moving air? Possibly clogged, see what you can do to get it cleaned up a bit. Does it make any difference what surface it's on? May be covering a vent on the bottom or back.
