The hard drive is most likely failing. It is being detected but is not functioning (when a boot device isn't seen or fails to boot, the system trys to boot to network and that causes the PXE error.

Most likely, since the drive detects, but doesn't work, replace the HDD

HI there,
The "Error" texts saying:
PXE-E61: Media test failure, check cable
PXE-MOF: Exiting Intel Boot Agent.
Are completely normal. This simply states that there is no external cables plugged into the specialty inputs on your toshiba laptop.

The "operating system not found" is stating that your existing hard drive is either A) dead or B) been erased.

Try to re-install your operating system, if it finds no hard drive, you'll need a new one!

My Acer Aspire 5100 keeps rebooting. This is what the screen says: INTEL UMDI PXE2 REALTEK RTL8139 PCI FAST ETHERNET CONTROLLER PXE-E61: MEDIA TEST FAILURE CHECK CABLE PXE-M0F: EXITING PXE ROM That is all...

The error message means that your system is trying to boot from LAN ie... Network boot enabled in your BIOS.

Since the system can't find any where to boot from. It is restarting.

Also probably your bootloader on the harddrive is corrupt. Please reinstall the operating system using a CD/DVD.

Upon booting I get this error. for realtek

PXE means Pre-Boot Execution Environment. You see this message when the laptop trying to boot from a remote server using the network card. If you didn’t see the PXE-E61 message before, it means that the network card was listed after the hard drive in the boot order (you can set the order in BIOS) and the laptop booted directly from the hard drive. Now, when the hard drive has failed, the laptop cannot detect it and tries to boot from the next available device – the network card. Your laptop is not configured to boot from a remote server using the network card, that’s why you are getting PXE-E61 Media test failure error.

You have to replace the hard drive and reinstall the operating system?

Boot sequence isn't enough. You have to turn OFF (disable) the boot from network. The error your seeing is result of the network boot rom not finding PXE server to boot from. Again, be sure to disable boot from network.

You need to change the boot order in the bios.

When you start the computer screen should prompt you at the bottom with something like:

F2 or F10 to enter setup.

Once you're in the bios, change the boot order to cd / dvd first.

Right now it's trying to boot through the network, that's why you're getting that message.

Let me know if you need any more help.

Best of Luck!

Possible hard drive failure on SLIMNOTE N12PI

I don't think its a hard drive failure thats causing that message, basically PXE means your computer is trying to boot from a network/server. All you have to do is go into your BIOS setup right after your computer boots. Then make sure your BIOS is set to boot from your hard drive and not anything else (floppy, network etc.). And if possible disable any PXE settings.

Power or boot failure

PXE is a common term when a computer is trying to do what is called a network boot. you probably have a bad hard drive and the computer sees there is no harddrive and is trying to boot from a pxe server off of a network.

PXE-E61:Media Test Failure

you got that error message because your harddrive isnot detected so it try to boot from network and you don't have OS in the network.

Most of the time is your hdd is dead. In some cases the motherboard is dead.

You can replace your hdd.
for OS (vista vs XP), if you have enough rams and high cpu, you should install vista, but for me, I prefer XP.
for the price, you should call microsoft seller.
