assuming you mean you have electric ignition, DO NOT try to lite with a flame of any kind. make sure gas is on, while pushing knob turn to PILOT hold knob down for appr. 10 seconds while still holding knob down, push ignter. you may have to do this proccess afew times. if this doesnt work, call a pro. gas appl. can be extremily dangerous
off, pilot then on. moving cockwise, push and depress in pilot to lite, hold long enough to warm up therm-couple safety switch to allow gas to stay on to pilot then turn to on to let gas go to burners. highly suggest a new vavle as it a safety issue to operate in this manner, but its cold and this will get you by for now, good luck
Not enough information but I will try and guess. Assuming that you have a pilot. Set the thermostat to vacation mode. turn the gas valve knob to pilot and push down and then click the pizzo button several times to lite the pilot. You can look through the sight glass at the bottom of the water heater to see if the pilot is lite. If it didn't wait a few minutes and try again and look at the pilot and see if you can see a spark. If it did lite and then when you took pressure off of the knob and if went out you could have a bad thermocouple or a bad gas valve.....hope this helped.
Three likely possisilities - one is insufficient gas pressure, another is a plugged pilot gas line and the other is that the thermocouple is defective. There are other possible problems, of course, but these are the most likely.
you should keep it in pilot light mode for about 5 minutes until it warms up, then switch it over. Your gas provider generally has a free service whereby they send out a technician to light the heater and make sure it is operating safely. Give them a call.
You will need to buy a new thermo couple 8.00 part from ace it is the little copper line close to piolet flame,it sences the piolet and allows the gas to open and feed,it is wore out, burned out, replace.
