Hi there,

Your monitor can easily support Windows XP resolutions. The problem almost certainly lies in your video settings. You need to lower your screen resolution and/or refresh rate.
If you can not start Windows due to this problem, you will have to start Windows in VGA compatibility mode. Follow these steps:
  1. When your PC starts up, press F8 a few times
  2. This will bring up a menu whereby you can select VGA mode from the list
  3. Once you are logged into Windows, right click anywhere on the desktop & select "properties"
  4. Then go to display settings & select a resolution of 1024 X 768.
  5. Go to advanced settings and make sure your refresh rate is no more than 70 to 75Mhz
  6. Restart Windows normally & your display should be correct.
Let me know if you have any further questions.

Best wishes,
Graemevm

Our acer 19in LCD monitor goes blank after initial startup and msg "Input not Supported" appears. Startup msgs are shown but once Windows XP starts, this error appears

Your resolution is set above what the monitor supports.

when computer is first starting up hit f8 to get to boot modes.

choose Enable VGA Mode: This option starts Windows in 640 x 480 mode by using the current video driver (not Vga.sys). This mode is useful if the display is configured for a setting that the monitor cannot display.

When you are booted into windows you can then set your resolution to the highest that the monitor supports which is 1440x900

Let me know if this helps.

Monitor wont work windows XP .not supporded

Nonsense. Windows XP supports _any_ monitor that can show "800-by-600" screen-resolution.

More details about your manufacturer and model-number of monitor, and what error-message(s) you are getting ???

I have a Compaq FP 5314 that flashes on and off at about every four seconds. It works on XP and shows everything up to the OS coming on. That is all the bios type info, but then starts flashing as above....

The problem is that UBUNTU is setting the screen-resolution to some values that your monitor does not support, e.g., 1920-by-1080, or not setting it to 60Hz.

During boot-up, your monitor uses 800-by-600, so it "initially" works, both with UBUNTU and XP.

Windows "detects" the monitor, and selects "usable" settings.

Attach a new monitor to UBUNTU, and then set the video-resolution to 1024-by-768 and to 60 Hz -- your Compaq should support those settings.

Input not supported icon shows up

Is there a reset, restore button on the monitor? If so, press it.
If this doesn't solve the problem, start Windows in Safe Mode by pressing on the F8 key as it is booting. When you get the black & white menu, choose safe mode. You should be able to change the resolution to a really generic one (like 600 x 800) here to allow you to start over.
You may have set the refresh rate incorrectly in the display screen, too.

It is all black, as if off

when starting windows press f8 key before the windows logo shows up > go to safe mode > click start>control panel> display>adapter>list all modes> choose 800x600 x 16 colours > apply > close > reboot to normal xp. OR When f8 key pressed > choose VGA mode. If this does not work then change the VGA Cable (borrow from someone if its TFT to test)

LCD Computer monitor

This problem may occur due to wrong driver of display card or wrong display settings.
Solution:
1- Start you computer in safe mode.
2- Remove display card driver.
3- Restart you computer.
4- Install display card driver (if it does not pick automatically).

Now it should show default settings. I hope it would solve your problem.
