Won't print, ink light and arrow light are flashing.
When I trouble shoot it said the device not connected, check if device is powered and properly connected to computer. The lights are flashing and it is connected to the usb port. I tried another usb port it didn't help. I downloaded a new driver that didn't help. It worked fine for over a year then two dalys ago it quit. I would appreciate an answer for this problem if anybody knows. HP said it sounds like a software problem.

I had this same problem. Count the number of blinks in sequence of the error light. it will flash green and yellow, and then just straight yellow for a number of flashes, then it will flash green again and the same number of yellow flashes again. Here is the diagnostic guide.
Two flashes: Printer is out of paper. Paper does not feed
Three flashes: Paper jam
Four Flashes: The Print Head Lock Lever is not locked properly / Ink tank is not installed properly. / Ink may have run out
Five flashes: Print Head is not installed./ Print Head is defective
Eight flashes: Ink absorber is almost full
Nine flashes:No response from connected digital camera or video camcorder/Connected digital camera or video camcorder is not compatible with this printer./PictBridge compliant devices are attached to both Direct Print Port and Bluetooth Unit Connector
Eleven flashes: Automatic Print Head Alignment failed
Twelve Flashes: Low battery level
Fifteen Flashes: Ink tank cannot be recognized
Seventeen Flashes: Ink has run out
Eighteen Flashes: Printer detected ink out condition
Nineteen Flashes: A USB hub is connected
Mine had 10 Flashes and the Print Carriage, was bad. Cost almost as much as another printer so thats what I did. I did take it apart and got it unstuck, but still didn't work.
This hapens when refilled cartridges are installed in the printer. To rectify the problem, look for the 'Resume button' normally black with a red circle around an arrow head pointing towards you. With the printer powered on, press and hold this button down for about 10 seconds. The error code will usually clear and the printer will print but the orange lights will still flash.
turn on/off, unplug, plug in, should reset configs. go to applications folder for your computer, dbl click printer icon for make of printer. check settings. print 'test document and clean cartridge heads', this should ensure proper printing formats.
lastly, go to web site of printer model and check site for trouble shooting if this does not work above. HP has an awesome trouble shooting site hope this helps and good luck

and see if the printed colors are "true" to what you see on the computer-screen.

Unfortunately it does not give any possible solutions for blinking lights.
The user guide on the other hand does. You can download this under Downloads -> Product / Software Manuals
Here is a summary of what the flashing lights could mean:
Two flashes: Out of paper or paper feed error
Reload the paper correctly and press the RESUME/CANCEL button.
Three flashes: Paper jam
If paper has jammed in the printer, clear the jam, reload the paper in the printer correctly and press the RESUME/CANCEL button.
See Paper Jams
Six flashes: No print head installed
Install a print head.
Seven flashes: Print head is defective
Contact the Customer Care Center.
Eight flashes: Waste ink tank almost full
Ink used for cleaning is absorbed in the waste ink absorber placed in the printer. Eight flashes indicate that the waste ink absorber is nearly full. Press the RESUME/CANCEL button to cancel the error so that you can continue printing.
Important If this error occurs, replacement of the waste ink absorber and maintenance of the printer are required. Canon recommends to contact the Customer Care Center as soon as possible. Once the waste ink absorber becomes completely full, printing will no longer be possible.
Nine flashes: Ink tank is not installed properly
Open the print head cover and press the button of the ink tank and reinstall the ink tank properly.
Ten flashes: Battery level is low
Charge the battery. For details on how to charge the battery, refer to the manual supplied with the battery.
Eleven flashes: A specified period of time has lapsed without receiving a response from the digital camera or digital video camcorder / The digital camera or digital video camcorder connected is not compatible with this printer
Disconnect the camera cable, press the printer's RESUME/CANCEL button and reconnect the cable. If the error is still unresolved, there is a possibility that you are using a digital camera or digital video camcorder that is not supported by this printer. Use digital cameras or digital video camcorders that are compatible with this printer.
POWER lamp flashes alternate green and orange:
An error that requires contacting the Customer Care Center may have occurred.
Disconnect the printer cable from the printer, and then turn the printer off and unplug the printer from the power supply. Plug the printer back in and turn the printer back on after leaving it about 10 minutes.
If the problem remains, contact the Customer Care Center.
If the light are flashing, it mean waste ink full. You must clean waste ink pad, and reset the counter. You can use SSC, find at indoreset.blogspot.com. But,.. you said the light are on. try to resinstall driver. after printer recognised by comp, check status monitor. Green light on is power on, and red on mean chip error/ink out error/cartridge error.
