I have installed a new colour cartridge to my c3180. The printer will not recognise it. It is not a genuine H.P. cartridge, but still should work.

Normal 0 Driver could be corrupt.
Disconnect the printer or at least be sure it is turned off. I'd do both and reinstall the CD software program that came withthe printer. When the software program asks you to connect theprinter to the USB port, do so and it should again work properly.
Hope this helps. Bud

Problem opening/ lifting to reach the ink

If you're having trouble with the cartridge carrier not moving automatically to its loading position (to install/replace cartridges) even when the printer is on and the cover is open, please follow the steps below:
  1. Unplug the printer from the power source.
  2. With the printer cover open, hold the solid white strip that connects from the carrier assembly to the ink cartridge carrier and gently slide the carrier to the center of the printer.
  3. Open the latch and remove the used cartridges.
  4. Load the new cartridges. Close the latch and then the printer cover.
  5. Re-plug the printer to the power source.
  6. After going through the startup process, try to print a document to verify that the cartridges are working and installed properly.

How do I install the printer cartrige? I do not have the booklet...

  1. Turn on your printer.

  2. Open the front cover.

The ink cartridge carrier moves and stops at the loading position unless the printer is busy.

  1. Press the tabs on the cartridge lids, then lift the lids.

  1. Remove the old ink cartridges.

  1. Store the cartridges in an air-tight container or dispose of them properly.

  2. If you are installing new ink cartridges, remove the sticker and transparent tape from the back and bottom of each ink cartridge.

NOTE: You can use your printer with one cartridge (color or black) at a time. To extend the life of your color cartridge and improve printing speed, install both a color cartridge and a black cartridge at the same time.
  1. Insert the new ink cartridges. Make sure the color ink cartridge is secure in the left ink cartridge carrier and the black ink cartridge is secure in the right ink cartridge carrier.

  1. Snap each lid closed.

  1. Close the front cover. The front cover must be closed to start a print job.

  1. Open the Dell Printer Solution Center by clicking Start® Programs or All Programs® Dell Printers® Dell Photo Printer 720® Dell Printer Solution Center.

  2. Click the Maintenance tab.

  3. Click Install a new print cartridge.

  4. Click Next.

  5. Select the type of cartridge you installed.

NOTE: Specify whether the cartridge is a new cartridge or an old cartridge (one that has been used before). If an old cartridge is incorrectly identified as New Cartridge in the Dell Printer Solution Center, ink levels may be incorrect.
  1. Click Next.

I took out the color ink cartridge earlier this afternoon, but I did not have a replacement. I now have the replacement, but the status light is flashing, and when I try to install the color ink...

If the cartridge carrier won't automatically move to its loading position even when the printer is on and the cover is open, just unplug the printer from the power source. With the cover open, hold the solid white strip and gently slide the cartridge carrier to the center of the printer. Remove the used cartridges. Load the new cartridges. Close the cover. Plug the printer back to the power source.
I hope this information has been helpful. Thanks.

Changing ink cartridge

  • Here is an instruction set I found at http://www.ehow.com/how_4488808_replace-ink-cartridges-lexmark-x2500.html
  • Step 1 Press the "Power" button to turn on your Lexmark X2500 3-in-1 printer.
  • Step 2 Open the top portion of the printer to reveal the ink cartridges.
  • Step 3 Lift the gray plastic cover on the left. Remove the empty black #28 ink cartridge. Next, lift the purple plastic cover on the right and remove the empty color #29 ink cartridge.
  • Step 4 Remove the new black #28 ink refill cartridge from its packaging. Tear the protective strip of paper from the cartridge's sensor. Now, remove the new color #29 ink refill cartridge from its packaging and tear the protective strip of paper from the cartridge's sensor.
  • Step 5 Turn the cartridges so that you can read the label. This is the way the cartridges should face when being put into the printer.
  • Step 6 Slide the black #28 cartridge into the slot on the left side and push it down. Slide the color #29 cartridge into the slot on the right side and push down.
  • Step 7 Push the gray plastic cover down over the #28 cartridge until it clicks closed. Push the purple plastic cover down over the #29 cartridge until it clicks closed.
  • Step 8 Close the top portion of the printer. Your new ink cartridges are installed, and your printer is ready to use.

    Will not print in color

    hi there,
try to access the dell all in one center. there's a link there that says maintenance. there's an option that says clean to fix horizontal streaks.
    then try to print again.
if still same. try to remove the color ink. remove the power cable of the printer. using a clean cloth, wipe the contacts of the copper strip inside the color cartridge carrier where you put the color cartridge. also clean the copper strip of the color cartridge.
    then try to print again.
if still same. try to uninstall/reinstall the printer driver.
if still same. 3 points of failure
    1. cartridge problem again. most probably bad cartridge batch 2. printer driver issue. 3. printer itself.

Hp printer will not detect new ink cartridge has been installed. Thought it was the cartridge, bought a new one and it still says it needs replaced.

I have had similar problem with my HP C6180. Over several months I have replaced Lt. Magenta at least 6 times. Finally I got a "Cannot Print" message after the 6th full cartridge. I tried removing/replacing cartridges, doing a hard reset, and clearing the hardware failure status (press # and *, enter code 1,2,3, scroll to 'System Configuration' press OK then scroll to 'Hardware Confifuration) - all to no avail.
I decided to remove the BIOS battery. Only do this if you're ready trash your C6180 and able to buy a new printer immediately! Remove 2 the black screws holding the left side panel in place and remove it to reveal the circuit board. Remove 5 silver screws securing the circuit board, and carefully tilt it up. On the back side, center front, is a silver 3 Volt Lithium battery; remove it. Cover the printer and let stand overnight. I did this, and when I put the battery back in and powered up the printer, error messages were gone, and it printed normally. I was lucky, but if you're prepared to take a total loss on your C6180, this might just work. My theory is that the hardware "forgot" it' error message.
