Thanks for trying! It sounded very good. Anyone else got a solution?

thanks for trying tborn6. I finally installed the replacement relay & overload, but it still won't kick in the condenser. The wiring looks clean & still new. Is there a "reset" switch?

Your starting components are weak, get the model number and make and go to the parts store and give them the information and get the start relay and a new overload. the parts go on the compresssor which has a black box on the side that if you remove the spring clip that holds it on. Just be sure that you take and remove the power first to the unit.

hey i have fixed numerous refrigerators that are doing the exact same thing that you have described to me.

then you either need a new compressor or you may try a 3-1 with a strart capacitor to give the compressor a little more starting torque than what it has with just the relay and overload.

first run the diagnostics on the unit from the tech sheet inside the unit, then if thermistors are bad replace these there are 2 one on the left and one on the right wall in both fridge and freezer,if good per diagnostics then replace the electronic damper door located between the fridge and freezer compartments in the upper left hand corner of the fridge behind the plastic grille as these doors break and jamb open or shut and the temps can no longer be regulated during the diagnostics tests you can hear this door operate if its operating correctly, lastly,if these fail to solve your problem, replace the main control board in the back behind a panel

How cold should my freezer be?

zero deg F. or -18deg C. for household Fridge freezer.

Deep freeze, like a chest freezer, - 10 deg. F. -23 deg. C.

Household freezer storage is good for approx 3 - 5 months depending on product.

The condenser coils dissipate heat. If dust and debris accumulate around the coils, your refrigerator may not be able to cool properly, it may run continuously or it may stop completely as a result of an overheated compressor. You should clean rear-mounted coils once a year. Unplug the refrigerator before cleaning. Refrigerators are heavy, never tip one forward or backward. Never attempt to move a refrigerator without an assistant. Vacuum or brush the coils. If coils have a filmy build-up, use warm soapy water to clean them. Take care not to spill or drip water onto the components of the refrigerator. You should clean floor level coils at least twice a year. Unplug the refrigerator before cleaning. Vacuum or brush the coils. Remove the grill from the front of the refrigerator and use a vacuum with a wand attachment to remove any dust and debris. The grill should snap off and on. Pull firmly toward you and possibly upward to remove the grill. If it does not come off with a modest effort, check for screws or retaining clips that may hold it in place.

NOTE_ Make sure that the evaporator and condenser fans are running. If they are not running, this will lead to a failed control board.

My Kenmore Fridge (bottom freezer type) not freezing

Look for problems you can see. Check for frost on the back wall of the freezer, If you find frost on the back wall locate the defrost timer and rotate the clutch head screw clockwise SLOWLY until you hear one click. With the timer now in the defrost position you will hear sounds in the freezer compartment such as expansion, sizzling, after a few minutes. If after say 25-30 minutes the system does not return to cooling mode ( Compressor starting) rotate the timer again SLOWLY until you hear a second click. This would indicate a bad defrost timer. If you get no defrost your problem could be a defect in the heater circuit such as an open heater or defrost thermostat. Normal defrost time would be 18-22 minutes.

GE bottem freeze- not cooling

It is not so much the freezer motor icing up but the drain trough that takes the water from defrost down to the pan.Possibly your drain trough is clogged and needs dethawing and cleaning.
