Question about Palm V

Palm Vx will not Hot Sync

Vx had been working fine...came back from travel; inserted handheld in cradle; attempted to do HotSync; getting message "handheld cannot connect to desktop". Cables are in place; power is on; program is running; did a "soft reset" (pin hole in back of handheld); still nothing. Any suggestions?

Not syncing while traveling.....when I returned & tried to Hot Sync with handheld in cradle I got the "cannot connect to desktop" error message.

  • dschneiderma Jan 26, 2009

No, nothing was changed. Was working fine last Monday when I left, came back on Thursday & it wouldn't Hot Sync. I'm using the serial cable that came with the unit connected to Com 1 of the desktop; same setup for at least 3 or 4 years since I got the unit. I checked the program on the desktop & it's up & running....the icon (circle with arrows at 1:00 & 7:00) is there. Even swapped another set of cradle & cables I happened to have, but still getting the "cannot connect" message.

  • dschneiderma Jan 26, 2009

Yes....shows "local" & "direct serial". Had one of our IT techs come down.....he uninstalled & reinstalled the software (after saving all my data) & still having the same problem. Very mysterious!

  • dschneiderma Jan 26, 2009

Tried that too & it still didn't work. Talked to the IT tech.... only thing that seems to be left at this point is the COM 1 port on my desktop. He's going to find some other peripheral we can hook up to see if that might be the problem, although that would seem to be a stretch.

  • dschneiderma Jan 26, 2009

Ah.....didn't think of that one (COM driver). I'll have that check in the morning...thanks

  • dschneiderma Jan 28, 2009

Hi....didn't want you to keep wondering. Problem turned out to be with the COM port connection in my desktop. I had loaded the Palm software on my laptop & it Sync'd fine with the handheld in the cradle. Fortunately, I work for a large corporation with lots of assets. IT guy came by; swapped out the desktop & the Palm is working fine now. Thanks for your help.

Or re-installing the com driver...something got corrupted or broke in that time...

What about a hard reset then since you backed up your data? I have been working with palms forever, and that is the only thing I can come up with at this point...

wild...and if you go to the Hot Sync program window on the TX...it still showing Local and Cradle/Cable?

OK, so you did not change any sync settings then...Does the PC recognize the unit when you set it in the cradle? I am referring to the USB device thing...

Can't transfer infor from palm to desktop

Try going to the Palm home page (www.palm.com) and reinstalling the desktop software. Once you have it reinstalled then do a hotsync. I had the same problem and this worked for me. Hopefully it will clear the problem.
Best wishes.

Hotsyncs

Dear Toda ;] Get an anti virus for palm os and run it, then reload the palm software. another thing to try that worked on a different device is to rename the Back-up folder to Old-Back or some other name. Do a hotsync. This usually works. Then open your old-back folder and install the programs and data to the handheld. Then do a final hot sync. Hope this helps.

Windows XP, Palm m130, & Outlook 2003 - Sync problem

It sounds like the computer is noticing the USB activity (from when you hit the HotSync button) but for some reason it can't find the correct information/driver. I'd first try a soft reset (stick a paper clip or the end of your stylus may screw off to reveal a pin, in the hole at the back of your palm) Don't worry, it won't delete your info UNLESS YOU HOLD DOWN THE POWER BUTTON (SO DON'T). Once it's booted back up, try the hotsync again. If that doesn't work, you may need to find the usb driver for your palm and reinstall it. This could just be copying a file from disc, or reloading your Palm Software. Good luck

Error message using IrComm port

Hi, Right click on hotsync manager at the bottom right corner of the pc , make sure only local serial and ir is having a check mark , if anything else has check mark , just go to that and do a left click , it will get unchecked . On the handheld tap on home , on the main page u will see hotsync icon , tap on that , on the hotsync page make sure via ir , and not cradle or cable , then at the top u will see hotsync in words , tap on that , in the drop down u will see lan sync pref, tap on that and make sure lan sync is highlighted , and not local hot sync , since local hotsync is usefull only when u perform cradle or cable hot sync using usb , then click on ok , try a hotsync . If this doesnt help and again u get the same error , do a soft reset on the handheld and on the pc , go into hotsync manager , click on setup , choose local , change the com port to a different port and reduce the speed to 9600 , click on ok restart the pc and again perform a hotsync . The error u got was coz of this , on ur pc a ir port is not been assigned .. Try this it should work .. Regards

Vx to Outlook 2002 failed - no connection Established

hi, on ur palm tap on home , u would see hotsync icon tap on that , on the hotsync page , u would see ur name on top or just welcome , make sure u see direct serial on the same page , tap on the top left corner where it says hotsync in words , in the drop down , tap on lan sync prefs , make sure local hotsync is darker in shade. on the pc make sure u see the hotsync manager at the bottom right corner , if not , click on start , click on all programs , choose palm desktop , inside that u would see hotsync manager , left double click on that , if it doesnt appear at the bottom right corner , try 4times , then if it still persists , restart the pc and try again. Once u see the hotsync manager at the bottom right corner , right click on that , left click on setup , left click on local , choose a different com port , reduce the speed to 9600 , click on ok restart ur pc and try hotsyncin , if it doesnt work try the previous step again and do not forget to restart ur pc , and then perform a hs , it will work .... How do I update my palm with outlook???

1. make sure Outlook is running on the PC 2. make sure hotsync is running - right click on the hotsync icon in the system tray - click custom - set all the things you "want" to sync and setup the way you want them (i.e. handheld over rides PC, they both sync, etc) 3. have VersaMail configured and setup as well...that's where your Outlook mail will come from 4. Push the hotsync button on your cable/cradle This should get you started. If I missed a step, it should be obvious in the Hotsync log, so check the log after doing a Hotsync.

Synch problem after installation

If your cradle is connected to a serial port, you will need to ensure that HotSync Manager is configured to use Serial Ports. To do this, follow these steps: 1. Click the HotSync Manager icon in the Windows system tray. 2. If there is a check mark next to the 'Local Serial' menu item, then you are already configured. 3. If there is not a check mark, click the 'Local Serial' option. For more information, refer to the handbook that came with your handheld. If you did not uninstall your previous version of Palm Desktop, the configuration will be done automatically.
