May be good to disable all additional settings. e.g. firewall or Port forwarding. I am assuming that you are able to authenticate (connect with user id + password) as you mentioned youtube works fine. So in that case, there shouldnt be a basic issue but more of a port forwarding or nat. Also check your laptop for any setting changes or personal firewalls.
Try pinging local gateway, then DNS then any international website. Based on that you can focus on the problematic area.
Your ex-next door neighbour needs to contact his Internet Service Provider to get a new ADSL connection linked to his new phone line. The original ADSL connection is tied to his old phone line/number and it will not work in his new location. Each ADSL connection is setup at the local telephone exchange and tied to that phone line/number..
If his Internet Service Provide does not operate nor can provide an ADSL service in his new area then he needs to find a new Internet Service Provider.
First: Connect your computer directly to the ADSL modem. It has an Ethernet port.
If you can't get to the Internet while your computer is connected directly to the modem, then ytour router never will either. Call ISP if you can't connect to the Internet when directly conencted to the modem. Next: Check your router wires again, The modem must be connected to the "special" port on the router. Look at the router. There is one port separated from the rest. Connect the modem to that port. Conenct to the Internet. Still no Internet?
Reset your router by pushing a stylus (straightened-out paperclip) into the reset "hole" on the router (with router powered ON).
Push & hold for 30 seconds or until the lights do their reset dance. Connect to the INternet.
Try testing it using a differrent router and monitor the connection period of that router during the week. If you still experiencing the same problem using the tes router. It indicates that it may be a adsl line related problem.
Turn off your modem and your router. Turn your modem back on wait for 2 mins then turn on your router. Try to connect. If that does not work. Connect your computer to the ADSL directly and check if you can get on. if not call your ISP.
