Question about Flat Panel Televisions

Open Question

LE46M86BD vertical stripes

I've had this tv for 10 months and it has suddenly developed this fault. The entire screen is full of thin vertical stripes of many colours. After about 15 seconds it then goes off then comes straight on again with the same screen. It did occur shortly after connecting a new AV receiver, but I can't believe that would have caused it. Ihave unplugged all cables but the fault is still there.

Usualy a problem with the LCD screen itself, that takes replacing the whole screen to fix. Sorry. Could also be an internal connector that has gone bad. There are tiny transistors on most displays that control whole rows and columns. It sounds like one went bad, causing a dead, or constant on, column. Unless you are REALLY handy, it will probably need to go to a service center for repair, which could be very expensive. Try flexing your screen - wrap a non-fibrous cloth around your hand and squeeze the screen lightly all around the edge. If you find a point where squeezing the screen makes things better or worse, explore that point further. Squeeze just hard enough to make a white area go light grey or yellow. It's safe to squeeze gently with something fluffy when the computer is turned-on. Could be a cable problem - either the cable is not making a good connection at one end, or the cable itself may have been crushed and one of the lines in it broken. Replacing the cable is far cheaper than replacing the display. Good luck

SOURCE: half screen activated only

When only a half screen is produced, it is usually a upper or lower buffer board, if the top half is blank then it is the upper buffer, and of course if it's the bottom half then it's the bottom buffer board

Unfortunately this means that your TV may be damaged. I would suggest talking to a professional or consider replacing your TV depending on the cost of fixing it.

What it means is that the power to that line of LCDs in your screen is 'stuck' and it is generally not user-serviceable.

Hi,
The black vertical line is caused by a leaking capacitor, Check and replace poped capacitor with a new won and it will work fine again. No worries.
