Question about Cougar Cycling

1 Answer

Valuing a bicycle

I have recently bought a Cougar time trial bike. I have no idea as to it's value. It has an incredibly light steel frame with HED deep V carbon rims. The gearing is Shimano ultegra. I am aware that there will be a range of bikes, prices being seperated by the quality of the components but as a rough guide I would like to know the price range from cheapest to most expensive.

I believe it is the 24" frame as I am 6,2" and find it a touch on the small side. With reference the name across the side... Because I don't have the bike with me, I can only remember the lurid pink and yellow frame and the Cougar being written, no specifics I'm afraid. I doubt this is of help at all.

I was thinking about the value of the bike when new. I have recently looked up the HED wheels and they are £800 alone! They are the HED Jet V 50s. Presumably that makes the original value somewhat more costly?

From what the guy that sold it to me told me, it was a standard bike.

Without specifics id say the minimum you were looking at is about £150 with the max being aroun £300. I hope that helps

I am trying to identify a bicyle i have. It is a fixie that has been painted and i have no idea what it is. Was told it was a race bike and it is an all alluminum frame. Serial # is SF90707882.

Very, very difficult to ID a bike that has been repainted, and serial numbers are seldom of use by themselves. "Race bike" means very little, and several manufacturers have made aluminum frames, though Trek is one of the more common ones. In any case ID'ing the bike at this point is not important - a repainted fixie has no collectible value and you don't need to know the brand of bike to maintain or fix it.

Vin KE11450. When was it made?

There is no standard database for bikes as there is for cars. However many Schwinn bikes have a date code on the head badge that indicates when the frame was assembled. For more info on serial numbers see: How to determine the year value etc of your bicycle

I have a Schwinn women's 21 speed Frontier. Frame in purple serial #0378. I wanted to know the year and specs. On it? Thank you!

First thing, is headbadge black and red? Does it say it was made in China, either on the headbadge or somewhere else on the frame. If so, the bike has no value as an antique bicycle. If its in running condition, tires hold air, brakes work and gears shift its about a $60 to $ 75 bike

My Dawes Super Galaxy has a lifetime frame and forks warranty. I bought the bike in 1993 and now the top tube has rusted through from the inside. On contacting Dawes they claim this is fair wear and tear...

I do not know the Dawes policy, however it sounds like they are expressing the industry standard. That is they will warranty against manufacturer "defects" for the life of the bicycle. Steel frames rusting are not a "defect" and thus not subject to warranty. It is unfortunate and had the original shop or the manufacture provided either a treatment or resources for treatment of the frame the rusting could have been prevented. But it's still not a defect.

Options: not much, you can either get the tube replaced by a frame builder or buy a new frame/ bike. Sorry, but other than stating your case to Dawes and seeing if they will sell a replacement frame at a discount there isn't much else you can do.

On my bike the silver frame that holds the back wheel on and connected to the main frame has snapped where can i buy this part and at what cost pls

This is called the dropout. It depends on what material the frame is. If steel, a bike builder will be able to braze a new one on. If aluminium, this is still possible, but specialist bike builder or aluminium welder needed. If carbon fibre, need to take back to manufacturer.
