Hi, I'm assuming you have a 3Com router, start internet explorer (blue e) in the address bar type 192.168.1.1 and press enter the new screen, type in the password to enter the set jup (as it says, admin is the default) click setup wizard, put a dot in pppoa (I'm assuming you're in the UK) click next, put in your user name and password, vpi/vcn 0 and 38 and encapsulation VC MUX, click next put channel to 11, choose an ssid (i leave mine at 3Com), click next, check all the data is correct then click on apply. Now to set up the encryption start internet explorer (blue e) in the address bar type 192.168.1.1 and press enter in the new screen, type in the password to enter the set jup (as it says, admin is the default) click wireless settings on the left hand side of the screen, click setup wizard select wpa-psk from the drop down box where it says pre-shared key, type in a MEMORABLE password and then click apply. Now You will lose your wireless signal. Panic ye not! Click on the smatt TV in the lower right hand side of the screen (this is called the sys-tray) You will now see that the wireless icon which looks a bit like a telly with 3 yellow arcs coming out of it's right hand side has a red cross on it. Click it once, click view wireless networks and then on the new screen click refresh network list. You will after a few seconds see your network -click on it and then on connect. A new box will come up asking you for the network key aka password. enter the memorable password you have just forgotten in the upper and lower boxes and press enter. Et voila! you now have an encrypted wireless network and you can only get onto it if you know the memorable password!

Call your ISP and ask them to walk you through it. I use my ISP tech support for everything. I use Clear wireless internet (www.clear.com/?utm_source=bc) out of Portland and I pay $50 a month for their “Unlimited” package so I figure – hey – I should get my moneys worth in both downloads and support!

I currently have an unsecured internet connection. How do I make it a secure connection?

You want to secure the wireless network.
Is there any computer connected to the router with the Ethernet cable?
If not then you will need to connect the computer to the router with the cable.
Check the IP address on the computer. Open the router set up page.
Once you open the set up page, you will find the option to make it secured

Wireless connection fine but internet connection impossible

if you only have usb connection in your modem, internet on the zyxel router will not work since it's using ethernet connection. in order for your zyxel device to work with tiscali, you will need a cable/dsl router that has ethernet connection as well. you can contact tiscali if they can provide you with that kind of modem.

hope this'll help you

quite often, if the router works in other houses, contact the telephone LINE company to see if there is a problem there. Alhough tiscali aren't always very helpful, ask them to do a line test and see if there is a problem with the signal to noise ratio on the line

Configure VPN

That 3Com really doesn't have a wahy of setting up a VPN.
As per the 3Com site it:
Support of VPN termination/initiation and passthrough allows secure connection to central office and/or secure access from remote workers.
So it will allow 3rd party VPN setups to pass through, but it doesn't have the ability to create one.
You might want to look into something like a Netgear Firewall

Can't connect to 3Com Office connect wireless from Apple Mac Pro

PPPoE connection is set up

1. Control Panel, double-click Network Connections. 2. Click the PPPoE connection under the Broadband group that you want to share, and then click Change settings of this connection under Network Tasks. 3. On the Advanced tab, click to select the Allow other network users to connect through this computer's Internet connection check box. 4. PPPoE connections behave in a similar way as do dial-up networking (DUN) connections, and you may want the connection to be automatically dialed when another computer on your network attempts to connect to the Internet. To do this, click to select the Establish a dial-up connection whenever a computer on my network attempts to access the Internet check box. 5. If you want to allow other network users to enable or disable the shared Internet connection, click to select the Allow other network users to control or disable the shared Internet connection check box. 6. Under Internet Connection Sharing, in Home networking connection, click the LAN (Local Area Network) connection that connects the computer that is sharing its PPPoE Internet connection to the other computers on your network.
