Since you ahve not mentioned the make / model of the set, I would advice you to search in the browser for the specific' ...... sound device free download' This search will give you the site address from where you can download and install. Before you do the installation make sure that the device is free from virus or do a scan before the installation. Try and confirm if you are able to get the site. Good day.
You actually do have a sound device in your pc, just no drivers. there are a number of options. 1st go to the mfg site and use their driver upgrade service.( it's free) 2nd, cnet.com has audio drivers and probably realtek ac97 will cure your problem.(also free) 3rd and the best option is to go to drivermax.com it is a free service that will scan your computer and give you the option to upgrade all the drivers on your system. There is no adware or spyware on this site and I send all my customers before I come out and charge them a service call.
if you go to the start menu and right click my computer on the list at the bottom it says properties click thAt a window will open called system properties on the tab titled hardware at the top click that a window for the hardware will open and you are looking for device manager in the device manager you can update and mess with whatever you have installed on your computer. now look for sound video and game controllers on the left is a plus arrow click the + symbol and it will expand your devices look for anything titled with the words (audio driver) this should give you make and model information of your sound card and drivers from here you can use windows (by double clicking your selection) to troubleshoot and update that driver or what i would reccomend is write that information down and then google search the description for your sound card and driver i think a generic driver is called legacy audio driver or something like that. anyways hope this fix ya
