ainamat, Did you do the FLASHLIGHT TEST to evaluate the status of the "switch-mode-power-supply"??? Every owner of a lcd display with "cold-cathode-fluorescent-lamps" backlighting should know how to perform AND interpret the results!!!! It's a very easy test to do! FYI Your monitor has a backlighting sysem very similar to the NEW curlie-Q CFL energy-saving screw-in light bulbs!! They have an ELECTRONIC BALLAST (converter) circuit (ac to ac) to light them. Monitors have a INVERTER circuit (dc to ac) ballast circuit that generates 600-1100vac to light your CCFL's. If the SMPS detects a FAULT with itself or a circuit that it is supplying power to, It will go into SHUTDOWN mode to try and save the unit from a catastrophic, nonrecoverable failure. e.g. worst case sparks, smoke, fire!! Anna, you should READ and follow the threads in my other responses if you can get to my FIXYA profile pages under 12fixlouie, aka louie12fix and read what I have already written about the BLACK SCREEN of DEATH and YOUR options. If after doing some surfing of the net, you determine that this response has steered you to a solution to your BSOD problem, please rate this response on fixya. Good luck in your quest. 12fixlouie

These monitors are switched by a signal from your computer. When this signal is present, the monitor turns on, when you shut your computer down, the monitor turns off. In the meantime it remains in "stand by" mode. The main moitor switch should turn if off alltogether. If it doesn't, the swich can be replaced, but cecause these are "momentary" switches it's not an easy thing to do.It won't matter a lot if you don't replace it.

disconnect all the cables from the back of the monitor except the power
you would see a test screen
if it still go to power safe while you are in the test page you monitor cud be bad better buy a new one as usually repairs are expensive

sysjrm, You need to visit YOUTUBE for video clips of "lcd monitor repair" to see if DIY project is what you can handle!!! After you "learn by seeing" some printed circuit "switch-mode-power-supply/inverter boards" having their "aluminum-can" electrolytic filter capacitors replaced and/or "thermally-intermittant" fractured solder-joints "resoldered" then you will be able to make decision on what to do about attempting a repair to your E228WFP! Note!!!! Make certain that your pc is not the cause of your BLACK SCREEN or BLACKnBLANK SCREEN problem/symptom by connecting a "known-good" monitor to your pc first!!! Please read the higher numbered(32 and up) pages in my fixya profile for more information on how to do the simple "flashlight test" for evaluating the state of shutdown that the switch-mode-supply may be in. Also read and follow the links you find in the profiles of "budmrtn" and "buddymc" that are very good ccfl back-lit lcd monitor technicians here on fixya. After you do your web research, remember to come back to this posting and do a comment and rating of this response if you feel that it has steered you in the right direction. Good luck with the repair. 12fixlouie
