I am thinking that the "protect" on that unit can possibly like when an amp goes into protection. Try powering up the deck without and speaker connections. f this works, then start connecting speakers one at a time to find out which speaker is causing the problem.

This is really easy to fix. Look on the face plate for a REALLY small hole. Put the tip of a pen in the hole and it should work. This usually means the stereo isn't wired properly so if the PROTECT keeps coming on after you've re-set it, take it to a dealer. To make sure you're everything is in properly. Hope this helps...

How do I set the time on my Kenwood KDC-MP238 cd player

You will find the manual to your Kenwood KDC-MP238 at this link. The clock settings are found on page 10/11. However for a quick try on your own. Put the headunit on STANDBY then press B. Boost button for 1 second, that will take you into the menu. Select CLK ADJ, press the Control button on the right hand side of the headunit for 1 second. The clock display should start blinking. Now use: Control button up/down changes the hours. Control button left/right changes the minutes. When you set the time, press B.Boost button to exit.

I have the MP-283 Model and the directions are poor not doubt,
I too was also having trouble with the DEMO mode and clock adjustment.

I put the stereo in standby mode, then press and hold the control knob for 2 seconds, then release and press the bass boost/ menu button, this shold open up all the options of the setero by using the control knob up/down to scroll through the various adjustments.

Security Code for Protect mode

Turn on the car so the radio is flashing "Protect." Look on the front / removable face of the stereo. On it you will find a small round hole - that's a reset button. Find a small paper clip, unfold the clip and stick it gently into the hole. The "Protect" will stop flashing, and Kenwood will be displayed. Unfortunately all your settings/presets will be gone, but at least the stereo is working again!
