I have exactly the same problem... I just recently got a yellow 8GB iPod nano (4th generation) and I can't figure out how to change the volume to mute. I don't even know if its possible with newer iPods, but you can do it on my old 2nd generation iPod nano.

Try

  1. Toggle the Hold switch on and off. (Slide it to Hold, then turn it off again.)
  2. Press and hold the Menu and Center (Select) buttons simultaneously until the Apple logo appears, about 6 to 8 seconds. You may need to repeat this step.

I reset my ipod nano (hold menu and center) then scroll down to "Setting" then "Playback" on to "Volume Limit" to increase volume and finally either "Done" or "Lock"

Very low volume on a brand new ipod touch what should i do to fix this problem

Turn on Ipod, on the left hand side there is a volume control switch. While you are on a song, hold the top of the volume control switch to increase the volume.
If that does not work then touch "settings", then touch "music" and make sure your "Volume Limit" is set to "Off", if it is not touch "Volume Limit" and set it to "Off".

I just got my daughter a an ipod touch for her b-day. She in turn gave me her old ipod 4 gb (I don´t know if its a nano or not)I would like it´s manual

http://manuals.info.apple.com/en_US/iPod_nano_4th_gen_UserGuide.pdf

Hopefully this is a 4th gen nano... If not you can go to www.apple.com click on support ... there is a search bar there. Put in the keywords that you want ... for example ipod nano 3rd generation manual and search .. it should pull up the older manual for you ... the one I posted is for the 4th generation nano.. hope this helps

Apple Ipod Nano 3rd Gen Volume troubles

Seems like a manufacturers fault on your click wheel. The new nano's have their click wheels held in place with just a strong adhesive so this one might be slightly out of place.Take it straight back as faulty. Make sure inside your headphone socket isn't red else Apple will say it's water damaged.
