SOURCE: water heater pilot light

it also sounds as though the pilot injector could be blocked so when the boiler comes on it extinguishes the pilot & then when the burner goes off boiler shuts down, or also the pilot rate maynot be set right, so when the main burner kicks in it robs the pilot of the gas it requires.
It could be that, or there is lack of ventilation for the boiler, so you get flame lift off when the boiler fires?

SOURCE: Natural gas hot water heater not stying lit

Probably a bad solenoid in the gas valve. Higher voltage of a new thermocouple keeps it open longer but it still fails over a period of time. Look into a new gas valve for the water heater.

SOURCE: I have a Rheem 50 gal. natural gas water heater

The most common reason a pilot light will not stay lit is a bad thermocouple. How old is the water heater? If the pilot light will light, but then go out when you release the safety button, that is a sure sign the thermocouple is bad. You can buy a replacement thermocouple at your local home improvement store. There is a small chance that the control valve has gone bad, but that is highly unlikely.

SOURCE: burner lites but goes out after 2 or 3 min.

the white rodgers gas control needs to be replaced;
the way it works is: the thermocouple opens the pilot gas circuit and, holds it open
when it heats up by creating a magnetic field in the gas control then: when you turn
the knob on the gas control to "on" a valve inside the gas valve opens the main gas circuit and, electricity supplied by your RV keeps it open.
the main gas coil inside the gas valve is defective and, can not hold the main gas circuit to the burner open anymore.

I have a Jayco pop up with an Atwood water heater, serial # 37C14U-5. My problem is two-fold. The water heater pilot doesn't stay lit after initial run, and propane is leaking out of the vent on the...

Leaking propane is red flag #1 and fire hazard.
Immediately update your insurance and then turn off gas.
If pilot is not staying lit, then gas leak can be cause of pilot problem since pressure on the line is reduced.
Other causes include bad gas control valve, air in the gas line, bad thermocouple, burner parts need cleaning, or all the above.
After fixing leak, replace thermocouple, clean combustion chamber and burner parts, and bleed gas line to remove air.

Pilot will light after 30 seconds when you try to move knob to on position the pilot goes out and heater won't ignite.

You need to replace the thermocouple.
When you light the pilot it is supose to heat the thermocouple.
the thermocouple produces a small electric current which allows the gas valve to open and keep the pilot going. and allowing the main burner to come on.

Pilot light stays lit BUT burner will not light

Sounds like gas control needs replacing. Before you do, Shut gas off at valve and your tanks and take a 3/8 or 7/16 wrench and remove the end of the thermocouple that screws in to gas control. Now spray a shot of WD-40in the hole it came out of. Now take a piece of fine steel wool and twirl it in your fingers until it's a few inches long and small enough round to put down in that hole and spin it with your fingers to clean surface where thermocouple seats, well. Use compressed air and blow it out now. Take a little piece of fine steel wool again and rub end of thermocouple that goes in the hole, so it's nice and shiny and clean. Now re-assemble, snug it up and re-try lighting. If pilot stays on, but burner won't light, and your 100% sure water is not already hot, ( check temperature coming out pressure relief valve, carefully) and temperature lever is over to hot setting, then replace gas control. One good indication of a faulty control is if you move the temperature lever all the way over to coldest and back all the way over to hottest and you don't hear it click.

Have an Atwood LP water heater. When I light the pilot light and hold it for 30 seconds or more it stays lit but the burner tube will not light except for at the air/fuel mixture slits at the thermostat...

Yes, a good place to start would be to run a burner brush through entire tube to make sure all spider webs are out, then blow through again. If that doesn't cure it, double check your position of burner tube in chamber. Sometimes if it's moved into chamber too far, it will tend to back-up flame in to tube. I've had some that I re-installed and was sure I put it back exactly where it was before, but had to pull burner tube back approx 1/8"-3/16" to get a proper flame. Make sure it's centered in chamber as well.

Pilot light keeps going out

Either the pilot light orfice is dirty, and you will need to pull it out and clean it, or the thermocouple is bad. If the pilot goes out as soon as you let the button go then it is most likely the thermocouple. If the pilot stays lit for a few days or hours then you will need to clean the pilot orfice, heres how:
1 turn off the gas supply
2 unhook the main burner gas line from the thermostat, this is the line that goes to the burner
3 unhook the pilot supply line it is usually next to the main burner line
4 unhook the thermocouple from the thermostat
5 remove the burner assembly
6 take the orfice out of the pilot line and clean it out by blowing thru it, use an air compressor if needed.
7 reassemble and light pilot
