Question about Olympus Stylus 700 / 700 Digital Camera
The error message (D: 5e02) means that your lens is dying / dead. It just happened to mine and I was told that it could be repaired, but it would cost as much as a new camera. I've only had mine 2 years and I've been really careful with it, so I'm a bit annoyed, but I have used it a lot!

this is the most common problem with the olympus cameras the lens has been knocked and by you pulling on the lens it sounds like you have done some damage to the motor that bring the lens in and out thats why its making that noise what you needed to do was move the lens either to the left or the right you will no when its fixed because the lens just pops out and the camera will be fine this works every time i just hope you havnt done to much damage alredy goodluck

The problem you are describing is a problem with a sensor in the lens assembly of the camera. It seems to have failed and needs to be replaced. Following are the instructions to send your camera to Olympus for service. http://olympusamerica.com/cpg_section/cpg_servicerepair.asp Olympus will charge a flat rate repair fee for this product if beyond the one year factory warranty or the warranty is voided. The cost is $86 plus your local sales tax. This covers parts and labor, factory cleaning and diagnostic check, 6 month warranty and the cost of shipping the product back to you is all included in that price.

If the camera makes a whirring noise when switched on then unfortunately from the many threads on this issue the problem appears to be with the poor quality materials used by Olympus. The lens gearing mechanism is plastic and if it is obstructed whilst extending then the gears can become damaged or slip out of alignment. As per feedback from many other users the cost of repair and likelihood of a re-occurrance are reasons to dump the camera and go for a more reliable make. (Or try thumping it which appears to work in some cases !!)
This being a 2nd bad experience with Olympus quality they are well and truly off my list of preferred suppliers
