Great, I've taken your advice and am waiting for Nikon to come back to me. I've had a good look at the scope and there is no wat the fsa-1 will fit. I do think that there must be an adapter to change the ring sizes.
    Terry.

I did a little research for you. Check your manual but I think your "eye piece" has a 12.5mm thread into the body of the scope. The FSA-L1 has a 15.2mm thread which goes in the place of and replaces the eye piece for the models it fits. Check that manual too. If you have calipers you can verify it too by measuring the male thread of each. What you need if you can find it is a 12.5mm (male) to 15.2mm (female)adapter. Becareful it doesn't change the focal length. Check with photo shops or on-line. I'll do a quick search too and repost if I find one.

I looked for you but sorry to say I could find an adapter. I think going to a large photo shop supplier they will lead you to right place. Wish I had a magic answer.

I think you have two other possible choices. One: go to Nikon an ask for the adapter, seeing you spent a lot of money with them, or two: take your scope and FSA-L1 to any machine shop and have an adapter made. It's about an hour job at their shop rate maybe less if the guy's decent. Make it out of "free running Brass" or even any 300 SS. Paint the inside with flat black to prevent reflections. But like I indicated before the "focal length" is critical. That has to be calculated. And I would not have the body machined out to the right size. You risk damaging the scope.

Wish I could of helped you more.

I need the eyepiece for the vivitar refractor telescope ot accidently was broking when I shipped to the Bahamas

You don't say whether this is an astronomical telescope or a terrestrial one (spotting scope). However, I have a Vivitar scope which was sold as an astronomical scope, but is actually a spotting scope, although it uses astronomical style eyepieces, so...

I am not sure that it is the eyepiece you want, either. It is hard to break an eyepiece, but much easier to break the eyepiece mount or diagonal mirror fitting.

Most astronomical telescopes use a standard fitting eyepiece with a 1.25 inch outside diameter barrel. You can measure the mount where the eyepiece goes to make sure that yours is this size, then search on eBay or Amazon for "1.25 eyepiece" and you will find many available. It doesn't have to be made by Vivitar, any make will fit.

The other variable will be the focal length of the eyepiece, which is what determines it's power. The power of the scope will be the focal length of the main objective divided by the focal length of the eyepiece, so a 9mm eyepiece will give a higher magnification (and be dimmer and harder to focus and find objects) than a 20mm eyepiece. It is usual to have two or three different focal length eyepieces for viewing different objects.

Is there an adapter available to attach my Nikon D40 to my Nikon RA11 spotting scope?

Sorry but your out of luck with that combination. Nikon only made SLR adapters for their Fieldscope line of spotters, none for the Sky and Earth series. The camera adapters are very proprietary so you won't be able to use another manufacturer's SLR adapter to solve this one.

Need instruction manual for 1996 or 1997 etx 90 basic model

The manuals are all available to download from www.meade.com.

If your scope has the motor drives and a control panel into which a controller could be plugged, then you just need to buy an Autostar 497 - always available on eBay for about £85. However, there are older models of the ETX which only have one motor or as a spotting scope for terrrestrial use with no motors - Autostar cannot be connected to these.

Look at the pictures of scopes on eBay which come with Autostar - if your looks like these, Autostar will fit. Else you are out of luck!
