Yes when you get a new Operating System you need new drivers for that operating system. Your Windows XP 2 drivers will no longer be valid once you switch to Windows 7 for your Compaq Presario c783tu. Most of the drivers will be automatically installed by Windows 7. You may have little problem with searching for some drivers for Windows 7 which Windows 7 does not contain. In this case you may try to install and experiment with Windows Vista drivers.
Warning: You can severely disable the functionality of your PC if you install the wrong driver. In this case you may need expert help and advice to remove those drivers from your PC and restore the normal functionality.
This model is not compatible with XP as the drivers XP uses do not "see" the componets on this model. It has to be Vista, but you can install Vista to look like XP, but it is a one way process - you cannot make it look like Vista again. When prompted to install Vista at the right moment choose "Classic" view and it will look and work like XP.
