Panasonic lumix dmc-lz7 lens cover won't open

I was using my camera and everything was fine. I turned it off and then saw something else I wanted to take a photo of. I turned the camera back on and the lens cover did not fully open. It opens only a crack. I can push it all the way open with my fingers, but it does not stay open. The camera still functions normally, otherwise--zooming and even taking photos of a crack of light. I've turned it off and on several times but nothing helps. I was on a boat at the time on my off of an island in Thailand. What can I do to fix the problem?

Lens cover will not open when camera is turned on. I solved the problem temporairly by dusting the external coverings with dry graphite. It worked fine for awhile, but has reverted back to not opening. Tried the solution again to no avail. Stays almost completely closed now, & manually opening it does not work.

Hey how you doin.
I had the same problem during a trip around Australia, some bull dust built up around the lens area. The only thing I did to rectify the problem was to blow it out with a tyre inflator at a road house when I stopped for petrol. No problem since then.
You may have some fine sand wedged in the cover area aswel.
Good luck 'R'

I also had this problem, and it was also fixed with a Q-tip. the reason i had the problem is the flaps worked their way intot eh wrong order, like a fan that won't close until all the fans are in the right order.

I started poking around the lens cover thing with Q-tips to try to see if there was some way I could figure out how to fix it. I eventually got a little frustrated and just sort of whacked it with the Q-tip and they came open all the way! I turned it off and then back on again and they were still only open a crack. I flicked it again and it stayed open and has opened just fine since then. Hopefully this is a permanent fix to some sort of wonky problem. But realistically, I think it might just poop out at some point. But I'm carrying Q-tips in my camera case now!

Dropped lumix but now everytime I switch it on its tells me to open the lens cover even when it is open.

It shows a problem with the motorized lens mechanism.I will prefer unscrewing the camera only if you are such an expert because there are very fine mechanics inside the Panasonic Lumix DMC-LZ2 which could be easily damaged if mishandled. Please take it to the nearest authorized service center.
I know this is not the solution you were expecting but I won't allow a much bigger damage due to mishandling.Your valuable feedback would be appreciated. Thanks for choosing Fixya.

How can I clean the INSIDE of a Panasonic Lumix DMC-LZ7 lens?

Unscrew the entire lens assembly from the body. The inner lens cannot get debris inside it but the outside of it and the inside of the protector lens can. It's a good idea to do this cleaning in your bathroom with the shower on hot but not visibly steamy as this will cut the airborne dust by 90%.

Want that my panasonic dmc-lz7 become a webcam but it cannot connect to my pc

The camera is designed to store images and videos onto a memory card, not to stream them live to a computer. It cannot be used as a webcam.

Panasonic lumix dmc-lz7 lens barrel doesn't move

Hi Sarah I am Vortash it shouldnt need to be a new camera a good clean out by an engineer should cure the problem provided you havent tried to force the lens back in if it was out , he will clean it with white spirit or alchahol and re set the lens mechanism and it shuold be fine .. but get an estimate first as the economics may be in favour of a new camera if it would cost too much .. in the uk here we charge approx $25 for that but it may be more over the pond .. regards Vortash

Lens cover only opens half-way

If the lens barrel isn't fully extending on power up, that will prevent the lens cover shutters from springing open. There is a stationary prong that pushes the cover closed when the barrel is retracted.

Does the camera work otherwise? Take pictures thru the half open lens?
