Question about Memorex MLT3221 32 in. LCD TV

1 Answer

Can not access menu or input functions

Turn tv on, fte display Memorex very quickly, then goes black. No buttons on remote nor TV work except power. I have the MLTD3222 which is same except DVD player on side. I can not change input because nothing displays when I push it. I had my cable box hooked up with HDMI, speakers turned off as sound was going optic output to receiver...I got sound but no picture. So I tried component, composite, etc. but nothing worked because I can not get TV to display input function to change input source. I have unplugged the TV and all that to try and get it back to out-of-the box settings, but it just displays Memorex real fast and that is it.

i have a similar problem only on the 32" with dvd/usb combo. only the power button on the tv or remote seem to do anything and all that happens is a quick showing of the memorex label then black. had a back light problem with a laptop once which was just like an extremly dark screen and u could vaguely see outlines, not getting anything but black with this.

I can not see anything. Flashlight causes a lot of glare. I did notice that I could see Memorex as it faded using flashlight, but screen then goes absolutely pitch black. I can not get sound...problem is I had speakers turned off as I had sound output through optic into receiver. Since I can not see menu settings, I can not change this. I did have sound when I first noticed issue with no picture, but pushing too many buttons has changed the input for sure. Is there a user fix for this or is this more than likely a "take it into service" issue?

I started trying every possible input, and got video 2 to give me sound (still no picture). Oddly, when I unplug yellow video feed, I lose sound...not sure why that is since red and white are for sound. Anyways, without a picture, I am still stuck. Even attempting to change input does not seem to change anything. It is stuck on accepting only video two...and only for sound. Wish there was a reset button for thing. Only had this 3 months.

I turn on the tv, the Memorex logo flashes on screen for maybe a second before the screen goes black. After 5-8 seconds, there is sound, but still no image.

Hi rduncan27,
I will be happy to help. 88% of LCD tv problems are with the backlight, the symptoms you described indicate a probable inverter malfunction. Lets do a simple test to check the functionality.

  1. Get the tv to a point that it is producing sound.
  2. Take a flashlight and shine it on the screen.
  3. Look very closely for a dark video image.
Let me know your findings and we can proceed from there.

The only reset is to leave unplugged, I would leave it overnight.
Without taking the back cover off and doing voltafe checks it is very difficult to diagnose.
Since the Memorex logo shows on the screen it probably is not the backlight, seems like maybe a main board issue.
The parts are fairly cheap at Shopjimmy.com but without actually troubleshooting you don't know what to buy.

I will take a look at the parts and get back to you.

Is the tv still under warranty?
If so call cutomer service and let them know, it could be something as simple as a firmware upgrade.
The symtoms now indicate an input board issue, im not sure if the input is built into the main board but I will check.

I am having the same problem... never happened before and I've had the TV for about 2 years. I tried unplugging it for about an hour and plugging back in, but not working. Will try it overnight and see what happens.... *sigh*

Tip

Acessing Menu with universal remote

We used a One4All model URC3021BOO remote. We programmed BOTH the TV function and the DVD/vcr button with code 0807.  To access the menu PRESS TV then MENU button then DVD/VCR button will allow you to change menu functions using left and right and select buttons. *TV button will access Menu screen BUT NO menu functions. * DVD/VCR button will NOT access menu screen but WILL control menu functions if menu is already displayed. May work with other sharp products, or other universal remotes? These original (RRMCG1330PESA) remotes run 38.00+ to buy new so try this FIRST!

Remote control not working with tv

The remote control is an acess to the TV device for example only from a distance. A remote controll for functionality would require to insert batteries a power source making possible communiction with devices requiring reception transmittion of signals. The remote is handheld pointed to the direction of TV requiring signal before button pressed woudl achieve response. a common button to start the remote control experience is pressing on the power button, that displays a signal on the TV. The TV should momentarily produce a sound and lighting effect,, and displaying on the dark screen a light blue screen. The initial signal response from remote control to TV indicates devices are functioning as required. Additional buttons on the remote controll could perform functions of several available.
The remote control has master button, menu on which every additional function is deriveable. Once the menu button is pressed with remote pointed in the direction of TV, should dicplay a list of options on the blue screen already established by power button. Every additional remote control device functionality is achievable by only after the first two buttons have been powered and pressed to display option results on a screen of TV. The remote controll buttons remaining perform complementary functionalities. For example, the arrow keys on remote control make movement of the options displayed on the screen, where a comfrimation button or identified as select allows to confirm remote functions displayed on the screen. A remote control could have several functionalities only accessible once made to display in screen. The three most common buttons on a remote control are First power button that powers on the TV, menu button that displays a list of functionalities on the powered on bl;ank blue screen, and using the arrow buttons on the remote would moves an indicator arround the screen area options. The selection button makes confrimation of the option.

New remote won't program to switch to cable input.

That's a problem with universal remote controls. Often they don't control every function of the TV. They just don't have the buttons needed to control everything the original remote did. You'll have the most basic controls - power, channel and volume up and down - and maybe a menu button. But you'll frequently find other things don't work, like switching inputs. There isn't anything you can do except try all the codes for your TV brand and see what each button does. You might find that the buttons have different functions depending on which code you've entered. You might also look for another brand of universal remote that has more functions available.

No picture on Memorex MLTD3222 flat panel LCD.

I recently got this tv from somone because of this exact problem. I have found a solution that works for mine. You can check to see if it works for you also. What I did was take of the back cover. 3 screws (1 big one in the center and 2 little ones below it). Next look at the power board. If plugged in and turned on the red light on the power board should be lit up. If so your power board is fine. Next find the component that has 4 switches. I manually turned these on and turned the tv on and it worked! Has been working ever since!

on some models the menu button is on the front disguised as the volume up/down or channel up/down buttons. you have to push both up/down buttons on either one of these to bring up the menu.
