Question about Projection Televisions

Horzontial black lines when there is a light colored background

The tv has a horzontial black line 6 to 8 inches from the top, a dark gray line mid screen, and a light gray line 6 to 8 inches from the bottom. They are only seen when there is a white or light colored background. The lines mid and bottom seem to quiver, almost like an old tv does when the horzontial hold is set incorrectly. Also the green hangs out to the right of any white item. I tried to set the convergance, but I only have blue h/v and red h/v adjustments

There r two convergence ic on the main board of the television as their number is 392---100 and u will have to replace both of them.then only it will get proper.
to get the exact part location and do it manually just click this link and follow the instructions
http://home.earthlink.net/~oleg.filippov/ConvergenceFix.htm

also for more help
You can try getting into it and if so, try adjusting the color, contrast, etc. once you enter.

You can find out how to enter by going to this site:

http://www.fixyourowntv.com/servicemenu.php

If that does not help, you may find the video processing and color separators, drivers or matrix is all messed up. This is usually a function of what is loosly called the "jungle chip". A big integrated circuit that manages all these things. The problem area could be within the chip itself or the hundreds of components that hang outside the chip. A tech will need to take measurements to find out the real problem area, in this case.

I would take it in and have it devices professionally. It may just be dusty inside, however having a pro do it is best. Use warranty if applicable.

When the screen is dark there are lines that run back and forth across the screen which is only noticable when pitcure is dark immage.

the screen bias needs to be turned down-ehind the front cover which is behind the grille there is a small black square about 3 inch square 6 little knobs sticking out 3 say in small letters screen and 3 say focus, don't adjust the focus just the screen for the coresponding color that shows up when picture is dark.best way to do this is darken the room and put it on video input with no signal if lines are white slowly
adjust 1 color after the other counterclockwise untill
lines disappear if only 1 color shows then only adjust the knob with the matching color. this is a very fine adjustment, to much will make your auto focus stop working. check it after you are done

I have a sony 50 in rear projection. 9 years old

Sounds like the CRT tubes are going out which is fairly common on Sony. Inside the back of the TV there are 6 knobs - 2 for each color...one is for focus - dont touch - the other for brightness...turn down the brightness just a hair untill the lines go away.

Vertical lines in the picture on light background only

It sounds like you have Image burn in on your crt's. This happens when you watch programs in 4X3 mode. (The sides are blacked or grayed out and the picture is centered in the screen). The only way to fix this is to replace the crt's. I wish I had better news. Let me know if I can be of further assistance

Toshiba 52HMX95 DLP has weird gray think line

DLP TVs work projecting light throught a tube covered with mirrors, called the light tunnel.

The gray shadow it is something in the middle of the light tunnel, probably a mirror that has gone out of place when you moved the TV.

JVC AV-48WP30 has vertical lines every inch or so...

This may not be the problem but its worth a try:
The plasma display screen is made of a matrix of elements connected to cables along the side and top. On your unit, some of these many, tiny connections are making contact intermittantly thus losing the elements in that area. These contacts are held in place with just pressure and if that is disturbed, you lose that line of elements. Try squeezing the cabinet of the TV on the outside at the top in the area of the loss and see if that makes a difference. May have to go inside and see if the contact assembly is disturbed or warped or something.
