ARRIS Modem + D-Link router = no internet

I have cable modem with an Arris modem and we tried to use our D-Link 2310 router but it doesn't work we can't get the net (I ain't using the wireless and don't care about it btw). I've changed the router twice and switched the modem once and it didn't change anything.

Plugged directly into my computer the modem provide internet just fine and my modem has been tested at a friend's place (who's with the same ISP) and it work perfectly.

I call D-Link they say that the problem is my modem, Videotron (my ISP) says that the problem is my router. They all evade their responsibilities and I really don't know what to do anymore. I've tried everything thing I found on the net but it doesn't help.

I couldn't get an Arris tm502g modem to work with a DI-524 router. I followed the advice from 'ohms' (clone MAC address and re-boot router), worked perfectly. (Hint: on the DI-524, the button for cloning the MAC address is on the "Home" tab, then hit "WAN" among the left-hand buttons. You might then have to scroll down a little to see the MAC info.)

Prior to that, I was working solely through the DI-524 wizard and getting nowhere -- process kept coughing up errors (internal error, 'not connected to a di-524 router', can't get to internet) and I couldn't figure out if I had a bum router, bad modem, wrong info from the ISP, etc.

So if you're experiencing this: skip the wizard, go straight to the GUI and try ohms' trick. Even if your router already has a MAC address assigned, give it another go.

Also: Updating your firmware might be a good idea. Go to your router's manufacturer site.

Have bought this modem and have now read that I will need a firmware upgrade. I use the modem in with a D-link dir-601 router. I am told that arris provides firmware upgrades to ISP's only. what can I do if anything to get this resolved.

When you are on Cable Internet with a "modem" only connected directly to the computer, what the ISP see is the computer's MAC Address (command prompt -> type ipconfig and hit enter).

put a router (which has it's own MAC Address) in-between and the ISP wont let you cause it sees the router not the computer.

check physical connection: cable modem -> router -> computer(hard wire for this troubleshooting)

access the d-link gui and locate the “Clone MAC Address" button (supposed to clone the computers MAC Address - verify if it's the same), save settings & reboot the router.

How to secure my d-link wireless adapter with my Arris 550a modem

To make your wireless router secure you need to use your browser and type in the router's IP configuration address.
Then you need to change the default Admin password,
change SSID and turn off SSID broadcast,
setup the encryption (use WAP or WAP2 if your wireless card supports WAP) if not use WEP 128 bit encryption
and for added protection use MAC address filtering.

Link light blinking

On these cable modems the link light is supposed to blink when you are connected to a router/pc. If you are hooking up a wireless router new you need to power cycle/reset your cable modem before you hook up the wireless router so that way it can refresh its ip address.

Can't seem to hook up D-link router to my Arris cable properly

-- who is your internet service provider
-- what is the operating system of your computer?
-- is this working fine before or is this a brand new router

you may try this and see if this help solve your problem. make sure your computer is directly connected to the router

Step 1: Shutdown the computer.
Step 2: reset the router while power on then Unplug the router’s power cable.
Step 3: Unplug the Broadband modem’s power cable and wait for 30 seconds.
Step 4: Plug in the Broadband modem’s power cable and wait for its lights to appear stable.
Step 5: Plug in the router's power cable once the modem’s lights appear stable.
Step 6: Power on the computer on and configure the router settings
Step 7: test the Internet connection.

if this still didnot work, upgrade the firmware of your router

configuring the router settings will depends who is your provider. if your isp is dsl you need to configure your ISP username and password on the router. if your router is a cable no need to change any settings on the router. it should automatically work
