Question about Samsung HCN553W 55" Rear Projection Television

1 Answer

I tried to mess around with the...

I did try messing around with the color settings, the coverting settings, they all do affect the tv but does not seem to make the ziggy zaggy lines get worse or better. Is there anything else that I could do at home before I call in someone that charges me a lot of money just to look at the TV. One other thing is that it seems to have a lot of yellow color around the boarder of the tv. Please help!

You will need to replace or have replaced the two convergence amp IC's on the convergence board in this set. They are the STK-392-040 IC's and the original replacement numbers are available at MCM electronics. Go here to see.http://www.mcminone.com/search.asp?keyword=STK392-040&btnSubmit.x=16&btnSubmit.y=11&btnSubmit=GO Or you can call PTS corp, as they have rebuilt complete convergence boards or can rebuild yours for you at 1-800-844-7871 Good Luck

I am having lines running through my TV and It got worse, now the colors are all messed up. When i shut it off for awhile and turn it back on, it seems ok, a few lines but color looks good. After about...

The problem you are experiencing based on the symptoms all point to the T-Con board. This board is located right above the panel, it controls the cells of pixels on the screen. What happens is once this goes bad you will normally tend to have lines on the screen as well as psychedelic colors. To replace the board does not take very technical skills but there is a lot of screws in between so I would recommend taking your unit to a certified repair center to have this board replaced.

When moving the 51pw9363 will the color be affected by weather and movement, TV's color was good and then moved to the basement now the color is all messed up tried the convergence seem to have no effect

Usually temperature will not have a big affect but high humidity will. I would suspect the convergence amps have possibly developed loose solder joints from the move. They are mounted on heavy duty heat sinks that can move a lot and crack joints. Hard to say. Thanks for using fixya.

RCA 27R410T Television colors are distorted

If you`re talking about colored spots in the screen, then you may have a degauss problem. It was frequent for those sets to have bad solder joint on the degaussing coil connector or thermistor next to it.If you`re handy with a soldering iron these connections would be near the a.c line input. good luck and don`t forget to unplug

Slanted picture

Your deflection yoke (a coil around the neck of the picture tube) must have gotten turned. Your can turn the picture upside down by rotating this coil. If your set is in warranty, you should return it. When this "yoke" is adjusted the color is affected too. If you try this yourself you'd void the warranty and mess up your color. Stargazer

Red color

No easy fix for a TV. If still under warranty or if you have no electronic repair experience you should take the set back to the shop or to a repair person. TV's are very hazardous to service. Even when plugged out, TV's can store very high voltages. As long as there's no burning smell, and the set is okay even when hot, after running for awhile, it's possibly bad connections on the convergence board. If you have some decent soldering skills and a familiarity with the insides of a TV, you may even save yourself a repair bill by getting some bad solder connections cleaned up. If its not the connections it could be the STK chips, or the board itself. It might also be caused by having the set placed close to another electrical device that causes a magnetic field that overtime messes with the colors on your tv. Its more noticeable sometimes after you take the device away, because the TV learnt to compensate for the effects of that field. If separating the TV from all other devices for a few days(while letting it work from time to time) doesn't affect the red tinge, you could try to degauss it manually. Some shops sell a degaussing wand that you wave around the TV to fix such problems. You can also build one yourself - tape a small samarium cobalt magnet (much stronger than your average magnet) to a pencil, then spin the pencil with your fingers while moving past the monitor. Note that if not done properly this can make things worse. Take care
