I'm getting audio dropuots from 2 separate audio cards

I'm doing audio recording and playback. Now all of a sudden both audio cards are dropping out audio. It's almost as if in the background somthing keeps conflicting with their output.

Do you have any open Internet Explorer windows? Some web-pages "auto-refresh" and IE emits a "click" sound when the page reloads.
