I have gone crazy trying to use my Phaff 4852 Coverlock, it keeps breaking I have threaded it at least 10 times exactly following the instructions

1. Take your throat plate off.
2. Turn your hand wheel towards you while you look at the needle go before the plate and begins to rise again.
3. The thread should slide across the bobbin carrier/bobbin without getting snagged. If it gets snagged the brackets that hold the carrier in place are pushed against the carrier too tight. They have to allow the thread to flow.
4. Check the bobbin pressure. The bobbin tension should be equal to the top tension. Attempt to equal the tension of four if possible.
5. Put your pressure foot up.
6. While you thread the machine give little nudges to check for snags along the way. The thread has got to go through the tension disc without error.
7 Once threaded put your foot down. Pull a little bit on the thread. It should have some resistance. Lower and raise the tension to check if the resistance changes any.
8. Sometimes the tension disc has to be blown out. This is also true about the tension spring on the bobbin case. You might want to put something thin between the tension disc to ensure there is no lint stuck.
9. Make sure the needle is the right one for the thread being used.

How to fix knotting and excessive thread under fabric on a Husqvarna Sapphire?

Check that the upper tension unit is applying some tension on the thread by lowering the presser foot and pulling the thread through the needle as though sewing. If there is resistance then it could be the bobbin tension. Pull the thread from the bottom up (as though sewing) and you should feel some resistance. If not, remove any loose threads or lint from the bobbin tension area in the bottom case. If there is no resistance from the top thread, take a stiff brush and remove any loose threads or lint from between the upper tension disks.

Good luck.

Epic el 2980 tension does not change

If the resistance worked before you moved it to where it is now then it's almost certainly a wiring issue. Make sure that each connection that was taken apart is perfect and that each pin is not bent. Make sure that all of the wiring moves freely and there is no pinch. If all of that is correct then it's most likely the resistance motor.

Top stitch looks great, under stitch bunches. I have rethreaded, rebobbined, changed tension. same result. :(

Bunching of thread is 99% a top tension problem. Make sure you thread the top thread correctly. Thread the machine with the presser lever up. Test the tension by lowering the presser lever before threading the eye of the needle, by pulling the thread with your left hand and adjusting the tension with your right hand while slowly pulling downwards. There should be no resistance when the tension dial is on zero, and you should be able to feel more resistance when you increase the tension. Ideal tension is between 3 and 5. When your top tension is correct, your machine should operate correctly. If you feel no resistance with the presser foot down and the tension dial on 5, check the tension disks for fluff or broken thread. When you lift the presser foot, the tension disks should open and you would be able to remove any cotton or fluff. Good Luck

Weider Crossbow Platinum The weight resistance needs calibration 20 lbs feels like 100 lbs. How can I fix this?

ADJUSTING THE RESISTANCE When the resistance setting changes, the motor will be heard. To prevent damage to the motor, do not pull any of the cables while the resistance setting is changing. If a cable is pulled, the words RELEASE HANDLES AND READJUST RESISTANCE AS DESIRED may appear in the main display on the console. If this message is displayed repeatedly but no cable is being pulled, there may be too much tension on the Upper Cable . Adjust the tension as described below. To decrease the tension on the Upper Cable.turn the two 3/8” x 38mm Tension Screws twice, counterclockwise. Select the desired resistance setting.Repeat this step if necessary.CLEANING THE BAR GUIDES Over time, dust may build up on the Crossbar Guides , causing a squeaking noise as the resistance system is used. If this occurs, wipe off the Crossbar Guides with a damp cloth and a mild, non-abrasive detergent. Do not use solvents.
RECALIBRATING THE CONSOLE To recalibrate the Console , first plug in the resistance system . Plug the indicated end of the Transformer into the Back Mech Cover . Plug the other end of the Transformer into a 120-volt outlet. All indicators and displays on the console will flash once; the console will then be ready for use. The motor may be heard while the resistance system calibrates itself. Important: Always plug in the transformerwhen using the resistance system., press and hold the NEXT button and the MOTORIZED WEIGHT ADJUSTMENT + button for five seconds. When the buttons are released, a number will appear in the REPS display. Press the NEXT button again, then press the MOTORIZED WEIGHT ADJUSTMENT + button; this will start the recalibration process. This may take a few minutes as the motor moves between the lowest and highest resistance settings. When the motor finishes, unplug the transformer from the 120- volt outlet. The Console will be recalibrated. Use the resistance system as described in the CONSOLE

We have a Nordictrack Futura 2200 and when we set the weight resistance it jumps back to 10lbs. no matter what we set it for it jumps back to 10lbs

When the resistance setting changes, the motor will be heard. To prevent damage to the motor, do not pull any of the cables while the resistance setting is changing. If the motor has difficulty adjusting the resistance level and no cable is being pulled, there may be too much tension on the Upper Cable (110). Adjust the tension as described below. To decrease the tension on the Upper Cable (110), turn the two 3/8” x 38mm Tension Screws (106) twice, counterclockwise. Select the desired resistance setting. Repeat this step if necessary.

I just got a singer simple 3116 and i can't get the stitches to look right. it looks like the top thread is too loose, but changing the tension doesn't change anything.

more than likely the thread is not firmly between the tension discs.  with the pressure foot up and the needle in highest position you should be able to pull thread with resistance.  If there is no resistance, most likely the thread tension is not being controlled.
