Maytag washer will not fill

Its sounds like you have a siphon going on, this happens when the drain hose it too low during fill and as the water enters the unit it exits through the drain hose. To stop this the drain hose needs to be higher than the tub itself, meaning: raise the drain hose behind the washer to about control panel area. This will or should stop the siphon effect and allow the water to remain in the tub. If the drain hose is low this siphon will start again.

Remove the front panel of the washer by using a putty knife to release the retaining clips, located in the seam between the front panel and the washer's top, about 2 inches in from each side. With an empty wash tub, remove the small hose on the left side of the outer tub and clean out the inside of the hose. Replace the hose. Test.

The problem is simple and easy to fix. Your washer has a tubing which runs from the base of the tub to the water pressure switch. It might have vibrated loose from the switch, or their can be some sediment in the tub. Blow out the tubing and reattach it securely to the switch and pump out the water in the tub. I have an Atlantis myself. There can be several problems. Did you check that the fill hoses in the back are not leaking? Are they tight? There are hoses inside the washer and a pump near the front. I replaced my pump last year and I,m getting ready to replace the thrust bearing assembly (spin issues). Does the washer leak with every load? make sure water is not splashing over the tub when filling. The front panel comes off if you can and leave off and watch to see where water is coming from.

Drain is to low. You will have to raise the drain hose above the top of the washer. Whats happening is the water is siphoning out as fast as it goes in.

First we started hearing a grinding sound during the spin cycle. My husband replaced the belt, which was loose and not helping the spinning of the tub any, thus much wetter clothing after spin cycle. The belt gave us another week of use out of the machine and did drain the tub better, but then water started leaking into the tub from the water inlet (or area where water rushes in to fill tub), and was not up to the usual "rush" of water, when filling up. The grinding sound started again during the spin cycle, and so now we are assuming it is the ball bearings or the brakes and perhaps the water pump as well. Estimates for these jobs on the boards seems to run from $400-500.00. The machine is only 7 years old, but after reading so many posts, maybe I should count my blessings that it lasted that long! This was an all mechanical machine, which I loved. Atlantis Maytag, a very sturdy and solid looking machine. Never did really clean that well though. SOLUTION: we are getting a new machine.

Your drain hose is too low or there is no air gap where the hose enters the drain line.
This causes the water to siphon out as it fills.

Follow the two inlet hoses from the back of your machine. They should each end at a valve (one for hot and one for cold). Make sure that these valves are all the way counter-clockwise and that the hoses are not kinked or pinched.

Its most likely the tub seal at the bottom, check and see if the area inside is wet in the middle. You will need to remove the outer panels to do this. It doesn't sound like anything else if the water was left to sit so a replacement of the seals around the center shaft should fix this problem. underneath the agitator is a graphite seal ring and nut that seals the inner tub and the outer tub. a suitable spanner wrench or a 6 inch channel lock plier will remove this locknut. replace the seal.
