If your mixer's motor was built by Hobart; there are thermsiters built in to the stator's windings that can cause this problem. Check the amp draw while it is running. Also if your are over loading the mixer or using the wrong speed,, that will cause an over heating problem. You should be able to get on the ITW Food Equipment Group / Hobart web site(s) and get capacity chart.

KSM90 Mixer knocking sound

The armature will not normally make a knocking noise, even on low speed it is turning at hundreds of revolutions per minute so you will only get a whirr not a knock. Most common knocking is the plastic fuse gear missing a tooth or two. That is the first gear driven directly from the end of the armature. What you should have done is break it down slowly while always keeping it together enough to run it with one component less each time. Remove planetary.....run it. Split gear case apart....run it. That sort of process will give you a clue where you need to be looking for the fault.

Remove the back cover and run it LOOK BUT DON'T TOUCH. Are the copper contacts jumping when the speed pulses? If yes you will need to SLIGHTLY twist the copper contact bar so that only one of the pointed contacts touches at low speed. Your adjustments will be done with the power cable unplugged.

It sounds like you removed the brushes, look in the hole and determine the orientation of the carbon brush( what you describe as magnet). Rotated 90 degrees may keep motor from running...

Hobart A-200 mixer gets hot and weak. Motor housing gets too hot to keep your hand on it. Service tech told me the motors usually don't go out. What other problem could it be?

I'd say you're most likely overloading the mixer. This mixer, and others similar in size, are frequently overloaded by people making pizza dough. If you are making dough, keep in mind the A-200's capacity is 9 lb. of 40% A.R. pizza dough, mixed for 5 minutes maximum. If you need to mix longer, the batch must be cut down even smaller, but I don't even know if you're mixing dough.

Try running the mixer unloaded (i.e. nothing in the bowl) for ten minutes or more and see if it gets hot. If it still gets hot, the motor's start circuit (varies depending upon age of the A-200; Hobart used numerous motors in the A-200 over the years, incorporating different starting circuits) most likely has problems. If it doesn't get hot when operating unloaded, then you're probably overheating the mixer by overloading it.

Kitchenaid mixer won't run changed out brushes and have changed them out in all 4 different positions

The brushes need to be seated onto the armature. Try going from off to high quickly and tapping the motor housing. Once the motor starts, let it run for 15 min plus to seat the brushes. Keep clear of or remove beaters whille trying to get the moror running. In brief, the brushesaren't making good contact with armature. Good Luck

Will not spin dry

Hi,
If your washer won't spin, check these:

It doesn't pump or spin If it doesn't pump water out or spin, check to see if the motor is running, then proceed as follows:

  • If the motor is running, your washer probably has a frozen pump pulley or a broken pump belt. To check the pulley, remove the pump from the washer and try to rotate the pulley manually. If it doesn't turn freely--if it's frozen or stiff--replace it. If the pump belt is broken or looks quite worn, replace it--but be sure to check the pump pulley before you change the belt.

  • If the motor isn't running, the lid switch may be defective. If so, the washing machine can't spin and may not function at all. The switch is inside the washing machine main housing near the door frame. Often you have to raise or open the top or front of the washing machine to get to the switch. If it's defective, you need to replace it.

It pumps, but doesn't spin If your washer pumps out the water but doesn't spin, check these:

  • The lid switch may be defective. If it is, the washing machine doesn't spin. The switch is inside the washing machine main housing near the door frame. Often you have to raise or open the top or front of the washing machine to get to the switch. If it's defective, you need to replace it.

  • The motor coupler may be broken. Many Whirlpool®-manufactured washers use a small, relatively inexpensive motor coupling. It's plastic and rubber and is mounted to the shaft of the motor on one side, and to the transmission on the other. Over time, the coupler wears out and fails. You may need to replace it.

  • A belt may be broken. Many washing machines have one or two belts. If a belt is broken or badly worn, you need to replace it with a genuine belt from the manufacturer. (Some washing machine belts are designed with special characteristics not found in automotive belts.)

  • The clutch may be worn. If your washer is a GE, it may use a clutch to come up to the proper spin speed. As the clutch wears out, it may prevent the unit from spinning well or at all. If the clutch is worn, you need to replace it. For this job, you probably want to hire a qualified appliance repair technician.

  • The drive motor may be defective. Many washer brands use a reversing motor. For agitation the motor runs in one direction, for spinning and draining, the other. It's possible for a motor to burn out in one direction and continue to operate in the other. If this happens, you need to replace the entire motor.

  • The transmission may not be shifting properly. Older washers produced by Whirlpool® have a transmission with an electro-mechanical shifter. If the shifter becomes even partially defective, the unit may drain the water but not spin. This is a complex system, if your washer has a shifter problem, you may want to hire a qualified appliance repair technician to repair it.

  • The spin bearing or basket drive may be worn or seized. These components allow the inner tub to spin freely inside the outer tub. When this is the problem, you usually hear a loud sound during the spin cycle. Call a qualified appliance repair technician.

It spins only with the lid closed For safety, washing machines are made so that they spin only with the lid closed. The lid switch prevents the spinning action when the lid is up.

Dishwasher will not drain at the end of cycle

Can you hear the drain pump humming or running?

If so, undo your drain hose from the drain or under your sink (if applicable) and look inside the spiggot (or small pipe) where you removed the drain hose from.

It may be blocked?

Repost if you need anymore help.

Thanks,
Adrian.
