DVD Burner in my Dell XPS just stopped working?

Check both ends of the data cable for looseness. Check the power plug on the back of the DVD player too. If all is correct then the player itself has failed. It does happen.

not much you can do... the lens is probably scratched and, at this point, it would probably cost less to just replace the DVD writer. And it doesn't even have to be the same make and model you have in your Dell. It can be any dvd writer that has the same connection type as yours.

Sony CRX3105 CDRW/DVD not functioning

1st of what OS are you using?
If your using Vista onwards,
Device manager supports updates through net You have to right click on the device and select properties
On the drivers tab, press update. Go through the process, you may select to update them through internet access.
If ever it fails, change the DVD (sata or IDE) slot.
A way to find out that DVD's are working is to put a CD in and if the LED light blinks, it still reads data and the prob is @ your computer (driver).

Hope I helped JeyCi

DVD+RW DRIVE STOPPED WORKING

Try rebooting your computer. I have a similar desktop and sometimes after a period of use the drive seems to power down - if I shut down and start up again it seems to work again.

If this doesn't solve the problem, check the connections inside the computer to make sure the drive has the data cable and power cable connected securely.

If you bought the Inspiron 3 days ago, contact Dell for warranty service and a replacement. If you just bought the drive itself 3 days ago, take it back or return it to the retailer you bought it from for a replacement.
