Your computer should work fine with the monitor. I would guess that the XP display settings are off, either the resolution or monitor refresh rate.

Rather than tinkering with the display settings, it may be easier to delete the video card from device manager, then reboot and let Windows configure itself. You can then tweak the settings by right-clicking the desktop, properties, settings (I think), or thru Control Panel, Display (I think). I haven't run XP in a while.

My crt monitor has gone half black...tried it with different CPU...still the same problem... Please advise me what to do...

Check the controls on the Monitor. Find the one for Up / Down. You may have to hold a Function Button at the same time. If this obviously older monitor has an AUTO SETUP button or something similar, try using that. If all else fails, check to see if there is a proper connection between the monitor and the computer. Some monitors don't like some brands of cables. Try using another type of cable like a VGA or SVGA cable and see if that works.

I have a SyncMAster 2220wm and have connected it to a new CPU using a VGA cable. Now everything has a shadow on it. Do I need a SVGA cable.

Hi, Check the VGA cable connectors. This type of shadows usually occur if the cable is not connected securely to the VGA socket of the CPU. Remove and reconnect the cable securely. Also check the cable for any visible damage.  This should solve the problem. Thanks.

I can not get the higher resolution on my Acer 22in X223W

Monitors have Max resolution. What you call VGA is not really VGA, the standard for VGA is 640X480, SVGA is 800X600 and XGA is 1024X768. VGA and DVI are capable of different "GAs". Consequently you are not able to go beyond the capabilities of your monitor. Right-Click on a blank area of your Desktop and click on Properties. Then click on the Settings tab. Move the slide all the way to the right and that will be the maximum resolution for your monitor.

Conecting to a flat screen

If you have a LCD that uses SVGA style connector (15 pin possibly blue) then Plug it in to the vga port on the Aspire and reboot.

If you have a DVI connector then you need a Digital to annalog converter, and it would be cheaper to purchase a VGA LCD monitor
