Question about HP Pavilion dv9000z Notebook

Anyone had hinge or structural issues (cracks in the thin trim) with the Pavilion dv7? Returned one to Sam's since it was within 3 month warranty. Four months later, the second one cracked the

It cracked on both thin trip pieces above the air vents on front. I have been loyal to HP but I do not think that will continue.

I have the same problem when I sent it to HP they put it back together with black tape. Cosmetically it looks horrible but it has been working fine for over a year.

Hi
this is normal the way how hp do things
if you have cosmetic damage if the bolts been ripped offand you have little budget order the hinges from ebay strip down the plastic take out the screen reseat the bolts push them down litle bit with soldering iron and put around them epoxy glue just little not to much max 3 mil around the bolts.the resin glue is in pound shop you have to mix it 1 to 1 seting time depend on arwentilation and room temperature but is about 4 to 5 min.
hinge always need to be replaced because is from dural simmilar to aluminium and stinless steel usuallu one material r soft another hard so because in the factory you they put grease all alu dast stick into grease and after time become tight thats why the hinge brake.
some hinges has washes and nuts and bolts you can release them usually in the factory they finishig the con on the end but with player you can ower turn this.
i hope this help

SOURCE: Broken (cracked) right Hinge on HP nc 4000 and Dell D600 Laptops

You can get replacement parts for this laptop, however it can get expensive. At the end of the day, you can use a super glue that is safe to use around electrical parts, but you might be better off just using an external monitor if you don't need to carry your laptop around.

Throwing the computer on the floor could have caused some of the connections within to come loose. It could have also cracked the LCD screen. Unless you're willing to disassemble the laptop and painstakingly go through checking all the connector cables and structural integrity of the circuit boards, I'd take it to a shop and have them look at it. Hopefully it isn't damaged permanently...
Good luck.

I managed to crack the LCD on my hp dv7 laptop. What is the easiest way to get the screen out to replace it?

Typically there are two screws on each hinge that is mounted inside the back of the laptop. You'll have to get the top indicator panel off to get to the connector(s) coming from the LCD. The usual process is unclip the wiring harneses and then remove the screws, and the screen and hinges come out. Replacement is the reverse.

Some laptops you have to remove the entire top of the laptop (keyboard/touchpad first, then the cover assembly. Others you can just pop the rear button cover (usually where the LED indicators and power button are located) and access the LCD connectors there. Best way is to go to HP and find the service manual information which will tell you how to remove that specific piece of hardware.
