Sansui G-5700 protection light wont go on

I have a Sansui G-5700, I was listening and I turned up the volume a little and it just shut off. I turn the power button back on and it turned on and it did the same thing a couple more times and it wouldn't turn on now, so I opened it up and replaced a broken fuse so now it turns on but no sound will come out the speakers. The "Safely Operate" button will not light up either. I also smell a little something from the rear of the unit. Please Help!

I disconnected my speakers and the "Safely operate" button is still not on at all even if i turn up the volume, so i dont think it will put out any sound until we find out why that isnt on.

I had a very similar problem with my Sansui G5700. Powers on, but no sound. My solution may not fix your problem, but this is what I did to solve mine. Removed the wooden cover. On the main power circuit board ( near the main transformer) there is a safety relay that activates the power to the speakers. Carefully remove the plastic cover ( should come off easily) spray the contacts with contact cleaner. ( do not use CRC. use a dedicated contact cleaner) Double check all your fuses. Refit the plastic relay cover. Refit the main wood cover. Power on, and hopefully it works :)...Mine has not missed a beat since.( If this didn't work, check if the relay actually switches on and off. The relay may have an open circuit and needs to be repaired/ replaced)

Try checking the speakers and connections. Those symptoms occur if there is a short. Disconnect all spkrs, turn it on and if it stays on connect one speaker at a time until it shuts off.

SOURCE: I have a sansui G9700 receiver/amp. The volume

The potentiometer doesn't need to be replace, it has collected dust inside causing the intermittent operation. Buy a contact cleaner/conditioner to spray inside it and move the potentiometer clockwise and counter clockwise a few times until the dust inside it is gone.
Check this link to find a contact/conditioner cleaner or you can try spraying rubbing alcohol but this could because alcohol doesn't not lubricants properties.
Let me know if you require further assistance.

SOURCE: Hi . I was hooking

There is no doubt, something burned out at your Sansui. Disconnect everything from the receiver and check at the back panel for any fuse holder. In case of existing, pray to be blown and check the fuse. In case of blown replace WITH THE SAME CURRENT RATTING. Without connecting anything but the power start it up AND BE READY TO TURN OFF in case of a failure. If everything (led, panel, lights) are working plug in a pair of headphones and check for audio. If ok, power off and connect with maximum care speakers (check out for short circuit at the terminals) and the rest. If not, there is internal damage; I don't pray for this. Keep me updated with ANY results..

In case of a problem or clarification, don't hesitate to post me a reply before rejecting my answer.

SOURCE: I am fixing a sansui

So you're saying ac doesn't get very far into the unit. THAT should be easy to diagnose with CARE since ac is usually passed unmodified to the fuses and power supplies, maybe through a relay. Get a digital voltmeter and find out where it disappears after getting into the unit.

Generally speaking, an amp protects itself from heat, shorts and overloads.

Overloads can be from excessive periods of high output and shorts would be wiring issues or a speaker blowing up.

You should be able to feel if it's hot. WHY is it overheating? Make sure it has sufficient ventilation on all sides and that vent holes are not blocked by dust balls. Ensure the fan (if equipped) is running as designed (some only operate on demand). Clean dust and debris from it.

If the amp comes back on after cooling, you're lucky. They only have so many self-protection cycles in their lives so continuously resetting or cycling their power without addressing the cause can do more harm than good.

If it protects immediately on a cool power up you should disconnect the speaker connections and try it 'naked'. If it comes up then diagnose which lead(s) are shorted. If it does not come up the problem is internal and should be left to an experienced hands-on tech.

Sansui sv-2012 tv volume is very low and suddenly increase

Hi srinivas_327,

This is common for some sansui televisions,

All you need to do is to go in the audio settings and turn "ON" the AUTO volume option .
This will help all your channels to have a similar volume , so you won't be surprised by sudden increase in volume.

Hope this helps ...:)

My girlfriend had the same issue with her 1300a. We saw on another forum that they took off the extra AV panel and infared receiver, so we opened it up. We couldn't really find either, but when we tightened all the plugs up things seem to be working fine again. Back to watching the Lifetime channel :(
