SOURCE: XL1800 GE Spacemaker Microwave oven "dead"

It's not good to run ANY microwave with the oven cavity empty. The items you place inside to cook or heat up act as a "load" and help to absorb/dissipate some of the RF energy. Your microwave has several thermstats installed that will blow in an overtemp condition. If you're lucky the Magnetron is still intact and only a thermostat has failed. The thermostats are small cylindrical devices mounted near the magentron and the oven cavity. They act as fuses and must be reset if blown. Go to and select "Parts & Accessories". Go the bottom of the next page and type in your model number. On the Search menu page select the second menu and type in "thermostat". There will be a series of thermostats listed with helpful drawings on where to locate them. I would advise you to check these drawings first and see if you can locate the thermstats to determine if they are bad. The thermostat should read a short (or very low resistance) if it is good. The part numbers are as follows:

Duct Thermostat (Item 27) ----------WB27X10714
Plate Thermostat (Item 115) ------- WB27X10713
Bi-Metal Thermostat (Item 110)-----WB27X10788

They all cost about $15.00 a piece.

Some additional advice: Make sure you unplug the microwave before servicing. If you are not savvy when it comes to electronics, or have never worked on a microwave before, it may not be adviseable to work on this yourself. Voltage potentials inside the High Voltage section of a microwave oven (where the Magentron is located) can be dangerous. There is a large capacitor that can store a charge and can be a shock hazard.

I hope this isn't discouraging to you, I just wanted to make you aware of some of the possible hazards associated with this appliance. I hope you find information helpful, and let me know if you need further assistance.

PS The alternative if all the thermostats are good, would be to check and/or replace the magnetron. (Item 73, Part #WB27X10305 at $115.00)

SOURCE: GE Spacemaker XL14, night lights won't work

We see (and repair) this a lot. The problem is on the control panel, which we regularly repair nationwide by mail for $39.95 postpaid in about a week.

At our Web site, we have a video available showing how to remove a typical over the range control panel assembly in under 5 minutes.

This light failure often occurs when a bulb goes out and the filament shorts, or when the bulbs are removed or installed without first unplugging the oven from the power line. Either can cause such a failure on the controller.

This can often also affect the exhaust fan operation, too. The lights and fan can be inoperable or stuck on too.

Details of our service and critical safety information and disassembly information is at our site, and our link is at our listing here on FixYa.

Feel free to contact me directly (and please remind me of your full model number) for more information & help.

We're happy to help you with free advice and we'd appreciate your thoughtful rating of our answer.

SOURCE: GE 1800 XL not heating, no power, except fan works and clock also

Hello :

It could be bad door switch or loose door switch mount . There are plastic mounts inside the microwave which hold the door switches and onto which the door latches lock when you close the door.

The screws on these mounts may be loose. If they get too loose, the switches will not be activated properly.

or it could be problem with the control panel .

good luck .

please rate !

Flame Sensor not available

We could look it up if we knew your full model number, but some of their budget models (like some made for Wal-Mart) are made with only turntable parts available.
Within the warranty period, the oven is to be returned to the dealer.
But a fire would not normally be covered under warranty unless the oven came on by itself when idle.
Otherwise, the thermostat / TCO has temperature markings on it, and a generic equivalent or very close type can be matched at a local appliance parts store.

Moisture between glasses on door. Is it dangerous to use it in this condition?. I have a pace maker and I do not want to damage it My microwave is only a year old.`

Since microwaves act directly on moisture, this should tell you that it isn't causing any leakage from the cavity/cabinet of the unit. If microwaves were passing through the moisture, it would eventually dry out completely I don't believe there is any reason for concern.
Even bad gaskets (seals) around the edge of the door do not cause leakage. Only a mechanically bent door could cause this and it would still be very minor.
The cooking enclosure itself is what is called a 'tuned cavity' and as such, contains the bulk of the energy internally.

When I plug the unit into the outlet, the GFI pops up

There is a short internally in the microwave somewhere... the GFCI checks and see the short and immediately trips out...
You will need to use an OHM meter and check out the circuitry to find the shorted place inside the microwave...
