Look on the lid and see if the magnet is still attached to it. The magnet is for the lid switch which will control all the washer functions.

  • Donna Hall Jan 19, 2013

yes it is still attached. I tried to unscrew it but it requires a star studded type not a regular phillip head and I need that type to undo the piece. I'm looking at a diagram of parts for my washer now. The push/start button could be out too. Both of these parts are relatively cheap too.

  • Donna Hall Jan 19, 2013

I will try replacing both parts; magnet & start button first to see if it corrects the problem. My washer is at least 10 yrs old so I may be in for a new one anyway.

SOURCE: GE Washer-Doesn't Fill When it Supposed to.

It is most likely a pressure switch. This is the water level switch. As water fills the tub, air pressure builds up in the rubber hose going to the switch. When the pressure is high enough for the water level setting, it trips the switch and puts the unit in wash cycle. Remove the control and start the machine. While it is agitating, remove the hose from the switch and see if the washer starts filling. If so, blow through the hose and see if something has clogged it. If you have a volt/ohm meter you can check across the terminals while you blow into the switch to see if it is working. Let me know what you find out.

SOURCE: GE washer won't fill with cold water

Cold water pipe had become frozen. FYI this model of washer has a nice feature whereas you can test each component i.e. valves, by setting the timer and reading the LED's on the front panel. Instructions are in the schematic.

SOURCE: GE Washer agitates when I try to fill it up with water, wont fill

You have a bad water level switch or a clogged plastic hose that goes to the water level switch.
Use a putty knife to open the front panel. The clips are at the top right and left sides just below the top lid. Push in on the clips and pull out on the panel.
On the left side of the tub you will see the air dome with aplastic hose connected.
Remove the hose and insert a small wire into the air dome hole to clean it out ouf soap scum. Then, blow through the hose and listen for a faint click in the water level switch. Also check the hose for a hole or being pinched.
The set the timer for spin and run a spin cycle then retry the water level and wash cycle.

GE WWSE5200B1WW Top Load washer will not fill or agitate

Hi Scoti

I would start with water level pressure switch. It regulates how much water goes into washer and also stops overfilling..It may be defective and thinks washer is already full( hence no water and automatic drain spin) P#WH12X10093
Second thing to try is unplugging the washer for 15 min and letting all the voltage leave the control board. At this time you will reset the washer to default factory settings in case there was a computer glitch..

Good Luck
