Thanks for your help. Okay, I deleted skype from my desktop, but can't find it in my programs (you can see I'm not very literate this way) and it came up when I started the computer. Then the thing froze.

I did the defragmentation which gets done every week on schedule . . . you know, I'm wondering about the skype thing. I see other people's webcam didn't work, and not only didn't mine work it would crash the machine. ? Related perhaps? and how do I exterminate it?

HAVE YOU CHECKED YOUR POWER OPTIONS
remove any programs you no longer need from control panel add remove
then do a disk cleanup from start-program files-accessories-system tools then restart run disk defrag
do you have programs start as soon as you turn on pc
like msn etc
this will slow it down

Satellite A-215 goes to black screen. Has always

Sometimes my laptop does this as well. It seems to happen more and more when it is warm. You might try putting something underneath it and ensure it is getting enough air flow. Once I started doing this, mine has been doing it less and less. Hope this helps.
Thanks,
Ben

My labtop freezes and screen goes black only thing i can do is power down and restart. I have a toshiba satellite. what could be the problem

If your Toshiba is brand new then I suggest returning it to the shop where you bought it and have it repaired under warranty. If you try to repair it you may void your warranty.

On my toshiba laptop A215-S4767 the screen just goes black. I have to pull battery and reboot. Some article I read said something about bios but with no further details.

yes... a common problem with Toshiba...

you DO need to go to the Toshiba website... look for the support and drivers section.....

Match up your make/model from their choices.... and Download/ Install the WinPhlash BIOS Update It will Stop The Random Black Screens and Blank Freezes...

I think you need to do a power cycle. remove the battery and use tha AC adapter alone. If it boots, then thats good. U can try also booting on safe mode by pressing F8. Then re start the notebook in normal mode. If it wont works then i think u need to reinstall windows as a last resort. U need to use TOSHIBA RECOVERY DISK this time.
